Friday, April 27th at 8:46 p.m.
Friday nights... there was nothing like it.
With a temperature of fifty degrees and the rain lightly drizzling down it was a great night to be chilling in a dimly lit garage smoking a fat one with a good friend. Tom Petty was belting out Don't Come Around Here No More in the background to keep with the ambiance of the garage. This wasn't an ordinary garage either. Instead of a parked car there was old furniture, ashtrays, a radio and of course two young adults toking it up.
Hunter didn't even bother using a lighter when he was in Harley's garage. What was the point of it when he could very well just use his natural, magical skills? Plus it saved on lighter fluid so he wouldn't have to go out and steal another one. He just said a little chant that he hardly had to even say out loud. It was more like a muttering that he did. He did it so often that it had become second nature. The very end of the rolled up tobacco paper became red as the flame started and he sucked on the unlit end, bringing the smoke in and filling up his lungs. After a pause he exhaled and watched as the clean white smoke made a cloud in front of his face concealing it for half a second before it began to rise and dissipate.
"Don't hold out on me now, man. I know you have something stronger stashed away. I could really use it about now." Hunter told the girl, who he'd been friends with for as long as he could remember. They had a good thing going between them. A business proposition. She was known for having some of the purest and strongest drugs that were out on the market these days. Hunter loved to personally try them and also helped her in selling them. Of course he didn't do it for free. No, he got a pretty decent cut in price when it came to buying for himself. And he'd proven himself a loyal customer for Harley. And a loyal friend.
But right now, he was trying to drown out news that he'd received from another friend of his. News that he deemed bad. Real bad. Petty was replaced by Beck's Loser and he turned his head towards the stereo trying to listen to the song. He didn't know if Harley had in a mix, an mp3 player, or just the radio but he had to give them kudos. Petty and Beck were two of his favorites that he'd never get tired of listening to. Not to mention they were mellow enough when he needed to drone out the real world and wallow in an indescribable high.
He pinched the end of the blunt and with an outstretched arm he held it out as an offering for the girl. "Almost got arrested the other day. What's new with you?" He asked and coughed a little bit which caused a cold chill to run through his entire body as he felt the drug creeping its way into effect. He loved that feeling. It was how he knew it was working, and next would come the heightened senses. They were even better.
(If anything should be changed just let me know. I tried to describe her parent's garage without going into too much detail since it's not my character's place. XD)

She loved when the weather complimented her personality. Chill and cool. The rain only relaxed her more. It added on to the lovely feeling of her joint. She was smoking a blend of herbs specifically designed to relax your emotions and body. It wasn't anything she sold, and kept it solely for herself and close friends. The settings of the garage made her smile. It was her favorite spot to be. The well-used couches and chairs surrounded a multi-purpose glass coffee table. Razor blades, papers and ashtrays conveniently placed on this table. Against a wall of the garage was a make-shift bar, it held her parents' supply of liquor that they "misplaced." They were always too hazed to realize what was going on. The opposite wall had a door, where there was a separate room. It was Harley's laboratory of sorts. Where the magic happened. Literally.
Harley and Hunter were doing their usual thing. Listening to the radio and "testing" their supplies. Her head tilted backwards against the back of the couch, blowing rings straight into the air. The rest of the smoke was exhaled through her nose as she heard him speak. She picked her head up and smiled when he said she was holding back. "Just this once," she joked in her smooth voice. She wondered why he needed something stronger so bad. But she didn't press. If he wanted to talk about it, he would open up on his own. Harley was not nosy in the least. She stood to get him what he wanted. Her bare feet got colder the more she walked on the cement. But it didn't bother her much. She quickly retrieved a blend normally bought by some real addicts. She knew Hunter could handle it, though. She tossed the bag to him before curling back up on the couch across from him.
She had kept her rolled fatty between her lips as his question came to her ears. "Almost got arrested the other day. What's new with you?" What a coincidence. She didn't actually get lectured or almost arrested. But she wasn't going to tell Hunter that she had a decent conversation with a Pig. And that she actually liked him... "Same, actually. Well the cop gave me a lecture... He obviously couldn't bust me with anything. Other than that... I've been working on something new. A steroid of sorts. One that doesn't make you grow a beard." Harley thought this was the best time to bring it up. She actually needed Hunter's help. She thought by combining their powers it would intensify her idea. She had been playing with a steel circle, a ring of sorts. By using the properties of steel she thought she could create something that could effect the muscles with the same endurance and strength. It was a brand new way of using drugs. "You could actually help," she began, raising her brows, "It's a completely different way of getting a hit, no inhaling, injecting, snorting or swallowing." She nodded slowly, the effects from her joint now sinking deeply into effect. She felt like a prophet, a thinker of sorts.
"You could get the first try?" She offered with a shrug. That would be payment enough if the thing worked. If not, oh well. They were friends, and Harley was sure he could give her a favor. She shifted the hood back over her messy hair. She felt pretty comfortable too, she she wasn't particularly worried if he didn't want to give it a try at the moment. She could jam to the music for awhile longer.
(haha it's all good!)

"Just this once"
The words brought a smile to Hunter's lips just as he sat up and leaned forward from his seat on the couch. He brought the joint to the ashtray and gently snuffed out the lit end, wanting to save what was left of it when Harley brought out the strong stuff. He reached for it and did the same thing he'd done for the other one, speaking those hushed words and lighting the end of this new blend. The first hit that he took in he could taste the difference. This one had a different flavor to it, the aftertaste stronger. Hunter didn't consider himself an addict but he knew he was close, since he smoked almost every day. If he had it then he smoked it.
His mind was already a bit foggy from the previous joint but that didn't stop him from giving Harley his full attention. She explained how she'd only gotten a lecture from a cop. If only he were that lucky. There were cops that knew him on a first name basis and no matter what he said or did they always tried to pin something on him. "At least you didn't get booked." He teased, looking over at her with those blood shot eyes of his.
Hunter sat there quietly and kept blowing smoke up into the air and watching it twist and disappear. At the mention of a new kind of way of getting a high without having to inject it in any way shape or form it piqued his interest. He was in the middle of a hit when she said this and he was so startled that he began to cough. Choking on the smoke only made chills run up his spine as he felt himself getting higher. The hacking turned into laughter and he leaned back shaking his head.
"Where is it?" Was the first question he asked. He loved being a guinea pig for her experiments. He trusted Harley. He'd known her for so long and he knew everything was made naturally. He knew all about her powers. She was so much like him. Hunter grew anxious waiting for her to dish it out!

His fit made her laugh and grin brightly. I guess he was surprised. She finished off her blunt, and exhaled slowly before replying. "It's a ring. I'll show you." (Funny thing is I had actually thought of this steroid in And Just Around The Corner...) She stood up, slower than usual, and almost glided over to the back room. This laboratory was simply for experimentation. She did all the real mixes in the shed in her parent's backyard. Here she tried out new drugs and improved others.
Harley felt like she was floating in a cloud. A wonderful numbness was making goosebumps rise on her skin. The drug was finally setting into her system and she loved it. The feeling actually heightened her inner senses while the others blurred. She could think more clearly now that she was relaxed. She waved Hunter inside before heading towards her current work station. She had a ring set up horizontally by three tweezer-looking holders. They pinched the sides of the ring with tiny fingers so most of the metal was open to the naked eye. Currently she had open an old and used book, words scribbled across it in chicken scratch. She opened to one of the bookmarked places, to an older writing.
Her parents had compiled a group of chants and spells in their prime. Back when they had brain cells, Mr. and Mrs. Knox were quite the chemists. "I'm trying to transform the contents of the steel into the body." She then pointed to stacks of mint, oak leaves, chamomile, and other natural things. "I was thinking you could use an electricity or light chant, and I could use this strength spell... and maybe a few other components."
She thought Chamomile was their best bet. It was normally a relaxing little flower, but it's ability (improved with Harley's chants) to sooth muscle spasms is what intrigued her. When Harley made chamomile tea from scratch, she could even get a little high from it. It was a great depressant. These characteristics could help balance out any sharp abilities that could come from the metal or Hunter's magic. Hopefully it didn't just put you to sleep...
She teasingly tugged at one of his wild hairs and grinned. "So what do you think? Wanna give it a try?" She began wrapping the little metal with the chamomile anyways. Afterwards, she pulled the blunt from his lips and took a long drag. Another reason they were friends, is that Hunter was so chill. Like Harley, he was cool with most things. She enjoyed his presence, basically. She politely placed it back between his lips before moving towards the book.
______
I got a whole explanation for why the ring turns into a Gargoyle aid later btw!

A ring?
He didn't know what the hell she planned on doing with a ring but it definitely caught his attention. Hunter got up to his feet and felt like he was floating after her. He knew that wasn't what was happening but that's what the drug made him think. In fact at first, he didn't even move. He just stood there and watched as she walked away from him, slowly distance coming between them. Then his brain decided to start telling his muscles that in order to follow they had to do some of the work and that's when he took his first step and then a second until he was following her into the experimentation room.
Hunter thought of her as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde whenever they went in that room, listening to her as she explained procedures and herbs to him. He'd never been one to know the properties of different plants and natural elements. He knew the ones he could manipulate and conjure up through his chants and concentration but he wasn't a Geomancer. There wasn't a green appendage on him. And while they were in the work area or the lab that was the shack in the backyard Harley was Dr. Jekyll, a total mad scientist coming up with new and mysterious concoctions. Then there was her Mr. Hyde side, which was when she was chill and mellow, smoking her own product, or when she was trying to get a quick sale to score some cash. Hunter liked both sides of her equally and that's why they were always such a compatible pair. He had his own sides also.
"I'm trying to transform the contents of the steel into the body."
What? He thought to himself and just stared at her through his numb, dry eyes. They were beginning to feel a bit sore, almost like he needed to shut them for a bit. A nap sounded nice, but there was no time for naps! He needed to hear about this new creation, and when she said she needed his help well.. that definitely made him grin like a stoned idiot.
"You want me to shock it?" He asked a bit dumbly and then held a hand out in front of him as if to say hold on I'll get this. His mind wasn't working at full capacity and he needed a moment to think about what she said. She planned on combining their powers to..
"With our powers combined, we become.. CAPTAAAIN PLANET!" Hunter couldn't help himself and he stuck his fist out in front of him, waiting for a fist bump. He couldn't keep a straight face though and started to crack up in a fit of soft giggles. He only giggled that way when he was beyond high, and this was one of those times. The giggles turned into a short snicker before he shook his head.
"Okay in all honesty.." He cleared his throat and tried to stand up straight in an attempt to show that he was going to be okay. Maybe it was a bad idea to have that joint and although Harley was sharing it with him he felt that she wasn't having enough! He took another hit and held it out for her while he used his other hand to dig in the back pocket of his jeans. There was one thing that he'd learned not to leave home without, and that was a little notebook.
The Blackthornes were an old line of Elementalists, and in their family was a grimoire. It was passed through the generations and as the family grew it had been split. No single person held the entire grimoire anymore, but each family that branched out were given parts of it. Not that anyone complained. Through the years the grimoire had become so large that it would be impossible for any one person to learn everything that was in it. And Hunter wasn't stupid. He knew better than to walk around toting the grimoire he'd received from his father everywhere with him. Hell, he didn't even keep it in his dorm. He kept it at his parent's house where he knew it would be kept safe. But he kept a few chants that he didn't have memorized written in the mini notepad that had been in his back pocket.
Wrapping his lips around the end of the blunt once more he began to flip through the pages. "I know I've got something in here.." He mumbled as he skillfully made sure that the joint didn't fall from his lips as he spoke. Light chants were not his specialty. In fact he sucked at them. But a chant with electricity? He was okay with those.
"Here it is.. Vocat potestatem fac mater fons.. that's it?" Hunter flipped the pages but that was all that he could find for a clean jolt of an electrical current. He shrugged and shut he notepad and tucked it securely in his back pocket once more. He knew the words and knew all he had to do was concentrate. He plucked the joint from his lips again and stared at the ring, waiting and watching her bind it with one of her herbs. She had so many he couldn't tell which was which. Although it smelled familiar.
Vocat potestatem fac mater fons Vocat potestatem fac mater fons Vocat potestatem fac mater fons
That's all he had to think of. As long as he remembered those words when she gave the signal he'd say them out loud and let his energy go into the ring.
"Ready?"

"With our powers combined, we become.. CAPTAAAIN PLANET!"
Harley's mouth opened so wide, her eyes almost bulging from this incredible revelation. "DUUUUUUUUDE fuck man! You are soo right." Immediately she fist bumped him. She smiled like a moron and nodded slowly. She knew they were friends for a reason. They had to save the day, obviously. Or get higher. Yes that first. She picked the joint from him as he searched, she took a long drag and held in the ingredients for as long as she could. Slowly, she exhaled the smoke into the already clouded room. A cough ended her first puff before she took another quick one and handed the blunt back to him.
She almost forgot the feel of this one. It worked quicker than her other blend, and she was already floating. She leaned against one of the counters staring at the samples she kept in her experiment room. She was pretty amazed with what seemed to be billions of things. She was a good collector. Hunter's voice seemed distant but she could point it out easily. He seemed to be ready. Oh. She finished coating the ring with the Chamomile before fingering her book to the correct page. She found the chant with ease. ferro vires in venis Seemed to be a strengthening spell, so it should work on any natural substance. Steel was two natural substances. Sooooo even better right?!
"Alright, let's do this thaaang." Her voice was like melting ice. Although she put that accent on, it was not harsh. She was smooth to the core, now even more relaxed due to that extra strength blunt. She cleared her throat, rubbing her hands together. She stared at the coated ring, slipping into that daze she got when chanting and creating. She could see the words in three dimension, swirling in her head. Seeing what would come after the chant. Harley always envisioned her concoctions before they were made. It was her key to success. "On three."
"One, Two, Three."
"ferro vires in venis" She could feel the power seeping from her and into the ring. The magic even gave her an extra feeling to her high. It was always different, every spell. Each new material was another buzz for her. Maybe it was the drugs she was on at the time. Maybe it was really some feeling. She wasn't sure. She was almost never sober. The combination of their powers was actually astounding. The whole room seemed to be alight. It was blinding white, like a lightning bolt. But the electricity seemed to swirl around the leaves and steel. Like an exotic dance. Harley couldn't take her eyes off the beautiful sight.
When all of a sudden it ended too quickly. The ring was black, and the chamomile had burned up. The smell of tea wafted through the air, adding on to the calming effect of the drugs. "Whoa," was all she had to say.

"Vocat potestatem fac mater fons"
He said his chant at the precise timing that she had told him to, which was an accomplishment considering how sluggish and incredibly stoned he was already. And as the light filled the work area his eyes went wide as if the wider he opened his eyes the better he could see everything that was happening. He knew how his magic worked and he knew how Harley's did as well. It was cool to watch though no matter how many times it happened. And this wasn't something they normally did together.
It was amazing, watching as the leaves burnt up and the aroma wafted through the air and filled his nostrils with the sweet, calming scent of chamomile. But the blackness of the ring was curious. It didn't glow and there wasn't any kind of aura around it. Did it actually work? Or would this be one of the failed experiments? "..did it work?" He wasted no time asking the obvious question to ask.
Did you have to wear the ring to get the effects? Was he too stoned to be able to tell the difference? His attention span had gone on break along with his motor skills apparently as he went to set the joint down that he still had in his hand except he managed to knock over a jar with.. well he didn't know what the hell it was that was in it! But they began to spill. "..oh. Dude you should keep that shit somewhere else." He began to slowly collect whatever the little objects were and put them back into the jar. They were prickly and he was sure it was some kind of weird plant. One stuck to his finger and he just stared at it for a second before sticking it out for Harley to see. "Your stuff is attacking me, man."

She cocked her head to the side slowly, just staring at the ring. She slid in and out of focus as she started spacing out. Any words that he said was just flying through one ear and out the other. Time seemed to slow, Hunter's movements were in slow motion. Her eyes widened as the little burrs spilled across the counter. She shook her head violently and when she looked up Hunter was pointing one at her and talking. She blinked and flicked the little burr into his hair. With his finger still sticking out, she shoved the ring on it to see what would happen.
She stared at it with narrowed eyes, almost willing it to make Hunter's biceps grow tenfold. Or something. Something would be nice. But the more she stared the more she got bored. It felt like she was standing there for hours. Harley lifted her hands in exasperation, "It's a dud!" She scooped up the little burrs and forced them back into the jar. Placing it in the same exact spot where it got knocked over. "And stop making a mess... Or they will actually attack you." She threatened and shook her fist at him. In her stoned state she couldn't keep a straight face, though.
Then she remembered the ring again. Her eyes went into Asian slits, angry at the little black circle. She reached for his joint, missing the first couple tries, and finally grabbed it. She managed to finish it off before speaking again. "Maybe it only works on girls." It had to do something, right? All that magic into one thing and nothing? Maybe he wasn't using it right. Then again... how do you use a ring drug?

Hunter could swear he could actually see vibrations. Every sound they made or every movement he was seeing colors.. brilliant reds and oranges and yellows! It was like he wasn't hearing anything at all but seeing it. He didn't hear Harley's words; he saw the words through the spectrum of color! And in his fixation on these he didn't react quick enough to stop the burr from going into his hair. He reached up one hand to swat it out while his finger was still sticking out in the air.
When the ring was placed on his finger it felt a little weird. Not because it was magically injecting him full of drugs but because it didn't fit properly on his index finger. His fingers were long and bony and the way that the ring was it didn't even make it all the way down his finger. His bony digit was preventing it from doing so. So he pulled it off and moved it to his ring finger where it took a little bit to get it past the fattest part but he managed to get it on properly. That's when he stared at it and stuck his hand out as if he were expecting the ring to turn into liquid so it would burn and melt his flesh clean off his hand. But that didn't happen. In fact, nothing happened.
"Did we do it wrong? Nothings happening. Or maybe I just smoked too much to tell." That seemed like a logical explanation, thought the stoned boy.
He watched Harley collect all the burrs and put them back in their rightful place. Although she didn't seem like a neat freak to Hunter, everything had its place so that she knew where to find it. It was one of those weird little quirks. Sort of like having a messy room where nobody else can find anything but you just know that your favorite lighter is under that off-colored tube sock and the bowl with the spoon stuck to the bottom because of old milk from cereal.
"Maybe it only works on girls."
"That's pretty stupid, don't you think?" Hunter gave her a sarcastic red-eyed stare but figured it was worth a shot. Maybe Harley was right and it wasn't strong enough to work on him or even it wasn't the right type of magic to work on him. Anything was possible. So with a few twists and a quick yank Hunter pulled the ring off and held it between his index and thumb and held it out for her to take.
He began to snicker suddenly, almost as if he'd told himself a joke in his own head. Except it was more a late reaction than anything. "They can't attack me." He said and blew raspberries at the girl as if she had fallen off her rocker. Drugs definitely made things better. A little slower, but definitely better.
"You know if this thing turns out to just be a piece of crap I could sell it. I'm sure someone would be dumb enough to buy it." He said it almost as if he were doing her a favor, taking the ring off her hands. Although the reason he'd want to sell it was because he figured if he did and gave her the cash for it then maybe she'd let him have some of it. Hunter might have been a thief, but he didn't steal from his friends. But he could use the money.
