"No I haven't warmed up yet. And it's good you should mention that because I think we should take care of that first," August raised a brow and let the zipper creep down her back once more. He felt her body raise, knowing she was on her tip toes, their mouths far too close once more. "How do you propose we do that?" Her lips were on his and her hands were already tugging at his hair.
With her zipper all the way down, he reached his hands into his hair and dislodged her fingers from it. "Oh, I find that things typically get worse before they can get better, Miss McManus." He whispered, keeping his lips away from hers. He lifted his hands to the straps of her dress and pulled them down.
The color came back to her cheeks and he grinned at her as they laid in his bed, the glow of having just had sex radiating off of them. He listened to her modest description of her intentions which made him cock a brow. It was apparent she was not entirely comfortable discussing this all, but that's what made him enjoy hearing it all the more.
"Actually, that sounds pretty good, Mr. Witt." She giggled and he nodded.
"Personally, I think you can do better." He teased. "Much, much better." There was a soft seduction in his voice, but his thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knock on the door. His brows furrowed deeply and he looked towards his open bedroom doors. Who would dare come over this evening?
August slid a finger to Maxine's chin and pulled her lips to his, kissing her lightly. "Don't stray too far. I'll be back in a moment." He climbed off the bed and pulled his pants on, running a hand through his just-fucked hair in an attempt to tame it, before heading to his front door. He unlocked it and pulled it open, staring at the gargoyle on the other side.
His manner changed almost instantly, coming off dark and unwelcoming. "Sebastian." He greeted slightly menacingly. "What do I owe the pleasure?" He asked, stepping aside politely to allow him access if he needed to discuss something, or giving him the freedom to stay where he was, which was August's preference.

It had been less than twenty-four hours that Sebastian heard word of a unique item that could allow one lucky gargoyle to walk during the day. So he decided to go out for a little stroll, looking up to the moon and wondering what it would be like to look up and see the sun in its place. What a sight that would be.
It wasn't long that he arrived at his destination, heading up the stoop to the door and knocking with his knuckles on the door. He thought he saw a light on, but he couldn't be sure. Turning his head he looked around to see if anyone else was in the neighborhood, possibly taking an evening stroll as he leaned his right arm up against the threshold and leaned against it casually, waiting for an answer. And after a long wait the door finally opened.
"Sebastian." He smiled at the sound of his name.
What do I owe the pleasure?"
He found it amusing that August always tried to act like such a gentleman, even when he was talking to Sebastian. Considering Sebastian was anything but gentlemanly, and that was proven by the fact that he didn't even ask if he could come in but when he saw August move he headed straight in.
"August, August.. it's been a while. I'm disappointed, how come you don't call anymore?" Sebastian and August had never been friends or anything even close to acquaintances. But Sebastian had occasionally dated August's cousin through the years and be default found himself around August from time to time. Not that August and Eponine got along, but it always made for some good entertainment.
But he didn't come here just to pick on August. No, he had more pressing matters at hand that he needed to discuss with him. And because August was the lesser of two evils, he decided he was Sebastian's best bet over Eponine for what he needed. "A little bird told me about something the council has come into possession of. And I want it." His eyes widened almost playfully as he let the grin pass over his lips and looked to August, all the while moving around and touching whatever he could. He liked to brush his fingers against other people's property, almost like he was challenging them to tell him to stop.

Maxi was giggling at August's response to her intentions when a knock came at the door. She looked toward the sound coming in through the double doors. It sent a wave of disappointment through her, knowing it would kill the mood for the moment. Before she could ask who it might be, she felt August's finger under her chin and she closed her eyes with his light kiss. "Don't stray too far. I'll be back in a moment." She smiled half-heartedly in reply and watched August slip out of the room to answer the door. Sitting in silence, she heard him greet someone, but he didn't sound too happy about it. It sounded like he said, "Sebastian." The voice that responded was also male, and she tensed.
She was naked with the doors to August's room wide open. Almost falling off the bed, she scurried quietly to her dress to slip it on, managing to get her bra back on too. The last thing she needed was to be seen in her dress with her bra still laying on the floor. She quietly zipped her dress back up and managed to comb her fingers through her hair. It didn't need to be obvious what had just happened. She left the shoes off for the moment, though, not sure when she had even kicked them off. Silently she pondered that while she sat back down on the edge of the bed, waiting for August to finish with his guest. She didn't want to get in the way if it was a private conversation.
Maxi could hear what sounded like pacing and she looked to the doors to the room. She wanted to catch a glimpse of either one of the men. One part of her curiosity was to see who had come to visit, and the other part was to see August's reaction to the visitor. She thought August sounded angry when he answered the door, but she couldn't be sure until she saw him. But even though she was curious, she didn't move from the bed. The last thing she needed was for August to be mad at her for interrupting.
Her legs crossed, and she leaned forward slightly with a quiet sigh, her eyes running along the titles on his bookshelf. She really would have to raid it eventually.

"August, August.. it's been a while. I'm disappointed, how come you don't call anymore?" Sebastian made himself comfortable, strolling in like he owned the place. Typical Sebastian. August's skin crawled but he shut the door and took a deep breath. Some people tried his patience more than others. This man was one of them.
"Oh, you know... life just keeps getting in the way." His tone was subtly sarcastic. He watched Sebastian like a hawk, ready to attack and completely on edge. He didn't like him in his home, especially knowing Maxine was naked in the other room.
"A little bird told me about something the council has come into possession of. And I want it."
August knew exactly what Sebastian was talking about. He'd caught word of it already, but August didn't know if the rumors were true, and if they were he had no way of knowing where the ring lay. They would all want it, him included. Whoever had it in their possession wouldn't give it up easily.
He glowered as Sebastian touched his belongings, cringing and tensing, as if someone were sliding a deep blade across his chest.
"Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure of what you're speaking of." He said, turning away from Sebastian and going down the hall towards his room. His eyes locked with Maxine's as he grabbed the door handles and shut them, keeping Sebastian out rather than Maxine. He didn't need Sebastian knowing he had company. He didn't even think about her purse on his couch with his jacket.
He returned to the living room and eyed Sebastian cautiously, regarding him as the threat he was. He didn't trust him, and he knew there would be repercussions to denying him what he wanted. "But if you're referring to the rumor that's been spreading like wildfire, I assure you there's no proof to that claim. Beside's, even if there were I can assure you no one would had something so valuable to someone like you." He stood firm, his eyes focused on Sebastian. "Now if that's all, I'd like to return to my evening."

"Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure of what you're speaking of."
tsk tsk.. Sebastian shook his head from side to side as he tsked at August. All of the gargoyles knew of the ring and they were stumbling over each other trying to find it. He was sure he even heard of a gargoyle named Jared had died just the morning before. And supposedly the rumors began with him.
"Now August you can't possibly think I'm going to believe that." He knew that August was going to play dumb with him. It was typical since the two of them didn't see eye to eye. He watched as August moved and shut some doors leading to another room that if memory served him correctly he recalled it was a bedroom. Or maybe a bathroom. It didn't matter.
"But if you're referring to the rumor that's been spreading like wildfire, I assure you there's no proof to that claim. Beside's, even if there were I can assure you no one would hand something so valuable to someone like you."
The gargoyle moved towards the couch and helped himself to a seat when he noticed there was something else on the sofa with him. It wasn't like August not to hang his coat up and he moved it a little bit to see what else was there. That's when the smile that was on his face began to thin and grow wider.
"Now if that's all, I'd like to return to my evening."
He got back up to his feet and walked around the couch towards August. He didn't want to seem threatening if he didn't have to, but he would go there if that's what it came down to. He enjoyed violence, actually. But he tried to restrain himself with some of the other gargoyles. He liked to keep his enemies close whenever possible.
"Is that any way to treat a guest?" He asked and seemed to be offended by August trying to rush him out. But he knew why. "Where is it August? If the council has it then you can find out and get it for me. I need that ring." Sebastian's voice lowered as he tried to keep the words between the two of them, his grey eyes staring through August's own hues. His expression growing dark and cold; intimidating.
Then almost as fast as he'd grown cold the smirk was back. "So who is the lucky lady?"

August grit his teeth when the other man got up and began to pace. He wasn't a guest by any stretch of the imagination. He was an intruder, nothing more than vermin. Sebastian was a disgrace to the Gargoyle name, as was his disgusting sister. Sure, Prestine was beautiful, but she was psychotic, and that was putting it kindly. Sebastian wasn't completely better. He knew about the Davenports and their sick extra curricular activities involving the humans.
"Where is it August? If the council has it then you can find out and get it for me. I need that ring."
He narrowed his eyes. August didn't appreciate being spoken to like this in his own home, but Sebastian wouldn't leave so easily. He needed to be placated somehow, which wasn't likely considering August didn't have what he wanted, and even if he did he certainly wouldn't give him any information regarding this supposed ring. Who wouldn't want to be among the day walkers? None of them had ever experienced sunlight outside of television. To the gargoyles it was as real as Santa Clause.
"So who is the lucky lady?"
His heart stopped. August narrowed his eyes at his "guest". "The lady is none of your concern." He growled dangerously, protective of his gazelle. She belonged to him and him alone, and August knew all too well how Sebastian liked women. He would eat Maxine alive given the opportunity. He was fuming.
"As for the ring, I told you the rumors haven't been concerned and again I reiterate that even if they were, I certainly don't know where it is and I sure as hell wouldn't let the likes of you ever see it. You tarnish the gargoyle name enough in the few hours of night we have. Surely the owner of the ring would need to be a respectable person in society, not someone who causes destruction wherever he goes. The only thing you need, Sebastian, is to leave my home and forget about the ring. You will never have it." He ended matter of factly, his stare cold. As far as August was concerned, this conversation was over.

Maxi could hear August approaching to the room, and when he looked in, giving her an intense gaze, she knew what he was trying to say. Stay in here. She would do just that. The last thing Maxi wanted to do was make August angry. She was curious to know what it was August said he didn't know anything about. Something in the way he said it made Maxi suspicious that he actually knew much more than he was letting on. But what were they referring to?
The redhead crept to the door and silently pressed her ear to the crack between the doors. She gathered they were talking about a ring. But what was the importance of the ring? Whatever the importance was, August was firm in his insistence the other person wouldn't get it. "The likes of you," he said. Was the other person a bad person? What made him so bad? Why didn't August like him? August didn't like a lot of people, it seemed, so that didn't necessarily mean anything. But the other guy seemed pretty determined to get this ring.
Then somehow Maxi came up. She was surprised when the other person asked about her. How did he know she was here? August certainly didn't like her coming up, from the way he replied. It almost sounded like he was trying to protect her. From the other guy? Why would he be a threat? There were so many questions that she knew were none of her business to ask. August told the other man, a gargoyle apparently, that he would never have the ring. For some reason that sent a chill through her. Why did she have such a bad feeling about this?
Before one of them could come in and find her with her ear pressed against the door, she scurried over to the bookshelf, looking absent-mindedly at the spines. She wasn't processing what she saw. All she could think about was the awful feeling about the confrontation going on outside those double doors. And the importance of that ring...

"As for the ring, I told you the rumors haven't been concerned and again I reiterate that even if they were, I certainly don't know where it is and I sure as hell wouldn't let the likes of you ever see it. Surely the owner of the ring would need to be a respectable person in society, not someone who causes destruction wherever he goes. The only thing you need, Sebastian, is to leave my home and forget about the ring. You will never have it."
"Sticks and stones, August." He rolled his eyes at the other gargoyle to show that what he said hadn't phased him. No matter what August said Sebastian knew that gargoyles were vile creatures. Their own counsel with the very best of them were corrupt. It was about who you knew and sometimes Sebastian wondered when the counsel were going to let the 1920's gangster facade drop. They weren't the mafia but sometimes they sure liked to think of themselves in that way.
"And I will get my hands on that ring. No matter what it takes." His words were quiet since he knew that August had a guest. The last thing he wanted was to alert more people of the rumors. He knew they were true and he didn't know just how many others knew about it yet but no doubt everyone was going to be after it. "And just think.. I'm not the only one out there that would do anything for a little sunshine. Whoever has it better be careful."
Sebastian didn't believe that August had no clue who had the ring. It was clearly in the hands of the counsel and unless he planned on volunteering to do body guard service for counsel members he wasn't going to get his hands on it. It wasn't that the counsel wasn't strong, but they weren't as strong as the Guardian class. Especially since they were practically ancient. They could easily be killed and it wouldn't take throwing them off of a high roof just before dawn either.
His eyes roamed towards the door that August had shut and wondered if he should brush past him and open it up to see what little mouse he had hidden in there. He licked his lips and then smacked them obnoxiously before he turned away from the other male. "Find me that ring. Or you're not going to like me. Well, more than you already don't like me." He turned and flashed his mocking grin before strolling towards the front door.
"And tell your guest that when she's ready for a real man to come find me." Oh how he loved to just try to push the man's buttons as much as he could. He knew how August was and he loved to watch him squirm. He opened up the door but didn't leave yet. He wanted to give August one more good look, wink at him and even pucker his lips in a fake kiss. Maybe he wouldn't have to tell his guest to find Sebastian.. Sebastian was going to find her.

"Sticks and stones, August. And I will get my hands on that ring. No matter what it takes. And just think.. I'm not the only one out there that would do anything for a little sunshine. Whoever has it better be careful."
Somehow this idiot guardian had got it into his thick skull that August had the ring or knew of its whereabouts. He was tense and angry and had to concentrate on not lashing out. August worked out and maintained his body. He wasn't weak for a politician, but he wasn't an idiot. Yes, he could take Sebastian on, but whether or not he won that battle was something else entirely. Plus, he didn't like sinking to the imbecile's level. He regarded himself as a higher being, and he could take whatever bullshit Sebastian threw his way.
August watched with fire in his eyes as the other man studied his bedroom door, obviously interested in what he had locked behind it. He would have stopped him had he decided to go towards it. Maxine belonged to him, and this didn't concern her. He was more disgusted with the other man now that he was licking his lips than when he was poking at his belongings. His hands were tight fists, ready to come to blows if he absolutely had to.
"Find me that ring. Or you're not going to like me. Well, more than you already don't like me." His jaw was tense, and he felt that it might shatter if he clenched it harder than he already was. "And tell your guest that when she's ready for a real man to come find me." His eyes narrowed and he had to concentrate harder on not giving into his natural urges to rip Sebastian, quite literally, limb from limb. He would have liked nothing more.
"That won't be necessary." August growled as he went to the door. "I'm twice the man you are, or ever could expect to be. Especially in bed." He slammed the door and locked it feeling a crippling anger course through his blood stream. He wanted to destroy things, namely Sebastian, but had to find his inner control.
August wanted that ring as much as the next gargoyle. It meant a real life, or rather a real human life. It meant being able to fulfill dreams, and seeing daylight and all the glorious things that weren't available to him due to his forced nocturnal lifestyle. It meant keeping Maxine all night and day.
Maxine..
He ran a hand through his hair and made his way back to his room, pushing both doors open easily and looking inside, spotting her by his books. He said nothing, storming towards her like a hurricane, violent and destructive. He felt angry and intense as he approached the girl, grabbing her maybe too roughly and pulling her to her feet. His lips found hers and he kissed her hard, pressing her to the wall of his room, groping her forcefully, his tongue invading her mouth in pure, violent need.
"Mine." He growled against her lips. "Do you understand?" His tone was almost menacing with an undertone of fear. His brows were low over his storming gray-blue eyes as he pulled away just enough to stare into her innocent blue globes. "Mine." He repeated. How had Sebastian gotten to him so easily?

Maxi heard August and the other gargoyle exchange some more words, August's voice sounding threatening from what little she could hear. The door closed and there was a long moment of silence. She continued looking at the books, her blood throbbing in her ears. The silence was deafening. The tension going on outside of the room was seeping into every corner of the apartment and there was no escaping it. Even the bedroom felt tense as she stood just staring at the spines of the books. Some were cracked with age and use, and some were stiff and smooth as though they had never been opened. But she couldn't read the titles. She couldn't focus on anything but the silence.
At last she heard footsteps approaching the room. They were rushed and heavy, and she could tell August was still angry. When the doors to the room opened again, she jumped a little at the sudden sound in the pervading silence. Their eyes locked and Maxi felt a fear seize her. August looked furious. He came rushing toward her, but she felt like a deer caught in the headlights. She couldn't move a muscle, afraid of what he would do if she did. When he pulled her to him violently, she couldn't make a sound, her stomach caught in her throat. Almost as soon as he bound her in his arms, his lips were on hers again. This time, she gave a whimper, the roughness of his mouth both painful and thrilling. What had brought this on? What did the other gargoyle say to him.
Her back was against the wall before she even knew she was moving. His hands were all over her, grinding into her skin and her curves, grabbing and groping, and all she could do was bring her arms around his shoulders. She let him do what he needed, hoping it would calm his anger. The feel of his tongue thrashing violently against hers made her heart throb, and she met this violence with her own passion. When he pulled away, just barely, she was panting. "Mine." The growl of his voice made her knees weak. "Do you understand?" She nodded, looking into his eyes. Why did it sound like he was afraid? Was he afraid of the other gargoyle, afraid of what he was capable of? Was he afraid of what the man might do to her? Somehow, despite these questions, it was endearing. August just barely sounded like he was afraid...for her. "Mine."
Her hands came to his hair, as she looked back at him, her warmth, fear, and reassurance written on her face. "Yours," she whispered in reply. She brought her lips back to his, only her kiss was more gentle, trying to placate him and reassure him that she wasn't going anywhere. Maxi didn't plan on being out of his life for some time. One of her hands slipped from his hair to his jaw as she kissed him, her fingers wrapped around his ear. The tension in the room seemed to be pressing down on them and she wanted nothing more than to release it.

"Yours,"
It wasn't simply the word that eased him, or even the soft way in which she said it, but her entire disposition. He could see the mild terror in her eyes from his sudden treatment, yet she remained calm and gentle, reassuring and kind. Like he were a child throwing a tantrum and she needed to regain control, but in a way that made the child still feel in control.
Her hand was in his hair and he shut his eyes as her lips pressed against his, far more gently than he had done to her only seconds before. Her fingers moved down to his jaw and then his ears and he was lost in her once more. His hands found her waist, sliding to the small of her back as he pressed her pelvis to his, deepening their kiss, his body still rigid and tense despite the tender way his lips moved with hers. It was as if he couldn't be comfortable with it, like he wasn't entirely there with her.
And he wasn't entirely there with her. His mind was rushing with the thoughts that Sebastian would do something stupid, and likely to him, or even more likely to the girl who was cradling his face with such compassion. Was she in danger? Could he keep her safe? She was safe during the day but what about at night? Would Sebastian find her? Would he wait for her?
August was seething once more and he pulled away abruptly from Maxine's kiss, turning away and running his hands through his hair. "Find me that ring. Or you're not going to like me. Well, more than you already don't like me." The words rang through his mind once more and he clenched his teeth, knowing Sebastian was idiot enough to make good on his word. He would do something to make his life difficult, but what? Mess with his career? He would have difficulty with that. He was, as far as August knew, a known nuisance. No, Sebastian would make it personal.
He turned abruptly, facing Maxine. "I want you to stay the night." It was a plea, but the way he said was in such a way that he didn't expect it to be up for discussion. "You can leave in the morning." He gulped and hesitated before fishing his keys from his pocket. "You will take my car to get yourself home." He didn't trust her in a cab. He didn't trust anyone to get her home safer than himself, but his car would have to do considering he would be stone come daybreak. "I'll come to collect it tomorrow evening."

Maxi sighed into August's lips when she felt him calm somewhat, holding her closer and deepening their kiss. She wanted him to lose himself in her, wanted him to relax and not worry so much. Worry...wasn't that her job? August wasn't the worry-wart, she was. But she didn't mind comforting him if it meant being in his arms. The moment was over all too soon, though, and he pulled away suddenly. She opened her eyes, once more, letting him go, a little bewildered. Her back was still pressed against the wall as she watched him turn from her, running his hands through his hair. Why was he so upset? She really was starting to become concerned. This ring...this ring and all the trouble that surrounded it was really getting to him.
When he turned back to her, she felt a little surge of fear again. His eyes were so intense. "I want you to stay the night." She was surprised at his tone and how almost pleading it was. "You can leave in the morning." It sounded reasonable, but how would she get home? Before she could even ask, he took the keys to his car out of his pocket. "You will take my car to get yourself home. I'll come to collect it tomorrow evening." Hesitantly she reached out for his keys, looking uncertain. His car was so fancy. What if she crashed it? He would be so mad. Then again, money didn't seem to be an object for August. She wanted to protest, totally uncomfortable with being trusted with his car, but she didn't protest. "Okay," was all she said as she took his keys with an uncertain smile. She walked toward the doors to the room, walking out to her purse and placing the keys in there. When she came back to the room, she hoped he felt a little better.
"How about I draw that bath we were talking about earlier?" she asked with a small, flirty smile. They needed something to relax with again. Without waiting for his answer, she went to the bathroom, crossing to the oversized tub. She turned on the water, making sure it was steaming hot before she turned the stopper to the drain. With her back turned toward the door, she slipped her dress off once again, letting it fall to the cold tile and did the same for her bra, the only undergarment she had been allowed to keep this evening. She then sat on the edge of the tub, waiting for it to fill. It would take a while, so she looked to the door with a smile, waiting for August to come in.

He felt better when she reached for the keys, his eyes locked intently on her as she moved from the room and into the main area of his home, placing them in her purse. He shut his eyes, hoping That Sebastian found another council member to pester so he wouldn't have to worry. "How about I draw that bath we were talking about earlier?" she asked with a small, flirty smile and once more he felt himself ease up just a little. She didn't bother waiting for his answer before moving to the bathrooms doorway. He stood where he was, hearing the water turn on and slowly he undid his pants, letting them pool at his feet. He stepped out of them and moved to the bathroom. August stopped at the door, staring at his gazelle as she sat on the tubs edge, naked. He was certainly smitten with this one. Enough so that he didn't want any harm to come to her. Not on his account. He knew it wouldn't last forever. It probably wouldn't even last long, but for the time being she was what he desires. Her skin was milky white and smooth, and even at this distance he could easily recall how soft it was. Her red hair cascading down her back and over her shoulders stirred desire deep in his belly, and though he couldn't see her eyes, he knew they were deep, beautiful oceans that easily displayed her feelings. She was so easy to want, so easy to desire... She turned and their eyes met, a delicate smile creasing her pink, poutty lips. She was irresistible. August moved through the large bathroom and came behind her, wrapping his arms around her body from behind, his face nuzzling into the crook of her neck. His lips found her soft skin and he planted delicate kisses to her shoulder, sighing into her flash as he finally eased up. He climbed into the tub and then pulled her on top of him, his lips finding hers, one arm around her waist, the other hand closing into a fist around the hair at the nape of her neck. "Yours." he breathed softly against her lips before losing himself once more.
