History: Julie grew up in Scriptor Bay, as most Therians do, and she did so with a loving mother and father…except her parents weren’t together. They had been high school sweethearts and made Julie a little too young—her mother gave birth to her when she was sixteen. Her parents tried to stay together, but the hormones of being a teenager, the stress of being in high school, and throwing a baby on top of that proved too much for the young couple. At the age of eighteen, Cora was thrown out of her parents’ house to fend for herself and her tiny daughter. They gave her enough money to support Julie, but Cora had to learn to figure things out on her own. She became savvy with money and stretching a dollar, working job after job to make ends meet. Even with her constant work, she gave Julie all the love and affection she could possibly give. Julie was Cora’s world, and as the little girl grew, there was no one she loved more than her mother. She saw her father often, but Christopher traveled a lot for his business, so Julie didn’t see him quite as much as she wanted. He doted on her, though, and spoke to her every week they were apart. In short, Julie had all the love she could ever hope for from her family.
Cora slowly rose in the ranks working at a bakery. By the time Julie was in middle school, she was the store manager—but Cora had higher ambitions. She’d always enjoyed baking sweet treats and, according to Julie, she made the yummiest cupcakes around. It gave her the inspiration to try out various flavored cupcakes in the bakery she managed until she was determined to own her own bakery. Her dream shop would sell strictly cupcakes and other sweet treats. So the idea of Cora’s Cupcakes was born. And who named the store? That’s right! Julie. The little girl was ecstatic that her mother was going to own her very own business and it served as the inspiration for her own ambitions. She didn’t want to stop at just owning a specialty shop, though; Julie dreamed of opening her own bed and breakfast someday right near the water. There was even a decrepit, beautiful old home near the bluffs that would make the best little bed and breakfast. She wasted no time in achieving that dream. Unlike her mother, ever the rebellious daughter, Julie had been well-behaved from a very young age. She was a star student and was soon accepted into a private school where her intellect would be far more stimulated than in the local high school. When she was old enough to get a job, the only logical place to go was the Remington Hotel. Where else would she get her experience and work her way up in the world?
She loved the Remington. It was beautiful and the top of the line as far as hotels went, though she had to admit she felt out of place among such finery and such high class people. The owners were always around, and while she was shy at first, the daughter of the original owner of the hotel always complimented her. She got used to seeing them around…but she could never get used to their son. He was another story entirely and constantly pestered her. There weren’t many people who could anger Julie, but he was one of the special few. She was relieved to go off to college and only have to see him over the summers. He even stayed away long enough to get his Master’s, which she was relieved by, since she was working her way through graduate school. With a recent promotion to manager at the hotel, she’s eagerly taken on her new role and taken charge, putting that shy, awkward little girl away as best as she can. There’s no one around to bug her and she’s confident she’ll excel at the Remington.
