Flaws/Weaknesses: Drew can be seen as childish and naïve, and in many ways he is. He trusts easily, and is therefore hurt easily. He believes in the inherent good nature of people, which has led others to take advantage of him. Also, Drew tends to underestimate the seriousness of situations, often preferring an optimistic and almost comical view of things as opposed to a realistic one. He also tends to be scatterbrained.
Skills/Strengths: Physically it would be hard to top Drew. He’s incredibly strong, but he doesn’t use his physical strength to intimidate or hurt others. Drew is also light-hearted and easygoing, which makes it hard to get him down and harder to keep him down. He has an incredible memory and when it comes to a topic he’s interested in, he retains information like a sponge (if he doesn’t like it though, he’ll hold onto the information for the test and then let it fly). Finally, being a versatile person, he’s able to connect with others easily and loves hearing different viewpoints which he genuinely believes gives him a fuller understanding of any given topic. He doesn’t judge and he’s easy to talk to.

History: To put it simply, Drew’s had a simple life; not easy, but simple. His father Serge abandoned him and his mother Grace when Drew was just five years old. Grace didn’t bad mouth her husband, however, only continued on with life. After a while, Drew completely forgot about his father and it was just him and his mother. They lived modestly so his mother could afford his education with one Mrs. Periwinkle. Drew was a good student and he adored his teacher and her husband Gertie. They were Blurrs too and unfailingly kind. It wasn’t until many, many years after his education ended that Gertie became the Blurr Leader, but Drew saw the awkward man as a leader even then and he tried to emulate his best qualities.
Doing so led Drew to become a kind, generous and very humorous young man, though his sense of humor was more his own development. He worked hard in everything he did and while his wasn’t a lush life, it was comfortable and safe and good enough for a growing young man. Some people might have described his upbringing as sheltered since he didn’t have a large scope of the world, but it was enough. His father’s absence was a non-issue, as he had Gertie to look up to, and his mother was around more than enough to make him feel perfectly loved and safe. The hardships that did come along, he was able to laugh off with his light-hearted and easygoing nature. Until his mother fell ill.
When Drew was seventeen, for six months Grace experienced headaches that just became more and more intense, to the point where she couldn’t ignore them anymore, and she finally took her son’s advice to go to the doctor. The news was grim. She had a brain tumor which was inoperable. They got out what they could and gave her chemotherapy, but nothing worked. After another six months, it was clear she didn’t have much longer to live. Drew never would have gotten through it without the Periwinkles. It was something he couldn’t laugh away; it wasn’t something he could overlook that would fix itself overnight. His mother was dying and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Towards the end she would blur herself so Drew couldn’t see how ill and frail she looked. She died on a Monday morning as the rain gathered on the hospital windows. For a month, Drew forgot how to laugh.
It was when four little children came into his life that he found laughter again. The Periwinkles had a son, Gus, and Gertie’s sister had several children, the youngest of which was Jamie, both of whom were being taught by Mrs. Periwinkle. Joining into the fray were two red-haired sisters, also Blurrs, whose names were Maureen and Maxine. He was finishing his schooling as they were beginning, but they taught him how to laugh and smile again and he’s continued to be grateful to them for that. Since then, he’s come to see all the children as his little brothers and sisters, as he had no siblings of his own. He learned alongside the children for another five years. He found that he loved helping the children learn, especially history. It was tutoring those four children that showed him his calling in life—he was meant to be a history teacher. He went to college to study just that, staying at Greenwolfe University in town so he could be near the kids he’d come to befriend and the only family that he really had left. Drew found his niche, and he was good at it. Right out of college, he earned a position as a high school history teacher in town. He even had the good fortune to teach those same kids again when they came to the school.
Unfortunately, tragedy never stays away long. One of the children he’d become close to, Maureen, was lost at sea with her parents. Her younger sister Maxine went to live with her grandparents, but she was devastated. Drew became a reliable shoulder for her to cry on, as well as Jamie, Gus and of course the Periwinkles. As they had done with Drew, the Periwinkles semi-adopted Maxine—Drew and Maxine continue to be good friends to this day. He was proud when she told him he was part of the reason she decided to become a teacher, as proud as any big brother could be. As a teacher, he continues to mentor students and tends to make his work his life. Drew dated in the past, but most of the girls expected him to be something he wasn’t—he looks like a very imposing, tough bad boy, but he’s actually more of a big teddy bear. The women all dumped him for some reason or another, mostly because he was childish, naïve, or just not what they were looking for at all. Drew, once again, laughed all of these off, but it’s a lonelier life than he would care to admit. He throws himself into his work because there isn’t much else that he can do, except to passively wait for something complicated to happen in his simple life.
