Jordan had always hated the stigma attached to interviews. They were always something that needed to be dreaded, where someone was expected to act their very best and dress their most professional, all while trying to impress someone they didn't know who expected them to act "themselves" and "natural", which was complete bullshit. Or so Jo thought.
When Jo had opened Sunshines, interviews weren't necessary since she had hired all of her friends to work at the shop with her. She even had her friends doing the taxes and really, it was what had made her so successful. She never had to worry about theft since everyone there truly cared about the shop and her success. Except for Kota. Her friend Kota had always liked to eat the lotion and would do so without paying for it, but no one ever really saw that as stealing, especially since he often sampled the samples. Jo didn't know how he could eat it, it was disgusting, but according to the boy it was sweet and all natural! Which was true, it was all natural, but she couldn't bring herself to taste it, no matter how lovely it smelled.
When she opened Sunshines Too in a new location, far from any of her beloved friends, she had to begin the interview process for the very first time. She had practiced on a few friends in the Vegas location, but nothing would have prepared her for the string of bad interviews she had once Sunshines Too actually opened. Needless to say it wasn't pretty.
Time and experience were Jordan's friend as she learned to be picky about who she offered interviews to. The application often told what she needed to know about whoever it was she was interviewing, but it was meeting and sitting down with the person which was the true test. Jo only liked to hire those she could not only trust, but people she felt she could get along with easily. She preferred women to men, and she wasn't wild about young high school aged people. She wanted no drama, just a casual, fun work environment.
Jo fell in love with Addison when she had handed in her application a week ago. She seemed like the kind of person she would hire, and she hadn't even interviewed her yet! She waited a day to get in touch and then set up an appointment with the girl. She decided to meet off of the store's premises, liking that it felt more casual that way, and asked Addison to meet her at Cora's Cupcakes, a favorite little hot spot of Jo's.
Jo got there early. She had brought her own tea and one for Addison as well, not knowing what she liked, but most people liked almost any flavor from Sunshines Too. She brought Honey Oat Chamomile, which had a subtle, sweet nutty taste to it that Jo adored. It was by far one of her favorite blends. She purchased two peanut butter cupcake drizzled with chocolate and some toffee cream candies for the interview, waning to keep this laid back. They wouldn't be there for very long, but it was a nice way to start off a relationship, and if things went sour, well Jo always liked knowing she had gotten a cupcake and candy out of the ordeal.
The young shop owner waited patiently, working on a Sudoku puzzle from a magazine she had brought. The interview wasn't scheduled for another fifteen minutes, but that was fine by Jo. She had no problem waiting and taking her time.
