The day may not have been full of sunshine and warmth, but it was a perfect day to go soaring through the skies! The weather was cold and rainy, the sky bleak and filled with grey tinted clouds. Standing on the ledge of a cliff looking over at the isles of Megsy Isle the sound and sight of waves crashing against the tall land that protruded up out of the ocean. The water was too choppy and rough to swim in that day and with the rainy cold weather nobody was spending the day at the beach. It was a perfect day indeed! That is if you're an Avisaille.
It had been a few days since Flynn had spent time with her good friend Griffin, and what better way to do it than to go out flying? Of course she was a poor flyer and sometimes she needed a little help, so that was another reason why she had invited Griffin out with her that day. He was patient enough with her that when she needed a break he'd sit with her and wait with kind words. But the real reason she wanted to spend time with him was to find out all about his night with Claire! Griffin had told her that Claire was a Therian and how he was given the opportunity to spend the night with her during a full moon. Flynn had been envious but more so she was thrilled for him!
"So how was it? How do they change?" Flynn questioned him as they set down their things, being in the woods just near the ledge that they'd drop off of. It was Flynn's favorite take off spot since they were concealed by trees from others if they ran into any trouble, but they also got a beautiful view of the beach as well. Flynn had grabbed a bag full of old sheets in case they decided to sit down they wouldn't get all muddy, along with a few tupperware containers of fresh fruit, cheese and some crackers if they became hungry. It was so easy to lose track of time when going flying.
Because of the chilly weather she'd worn a sweatshirt, but when it came to flying she couldn't do it if her wings were under her clothes. So she tugged off the sweatshirt, revealing that she had on a summery blue halter top and a brown bathing suit top under the halter. With the open back it would make it so she wouldn't have to take off her top in order to fly. Not that it would be weird to be topless in front of Griffin since neither of them would ever think anything sexual about it, but because she just didn't want to be too cold!
She worked at the leather ties that held the holster in place keeping her wings tightly bound against her back. When she allowed it to clatter to the floor her wings popped out like they'd been caged up for far too long. Flynn never would like those holsters. She stretched them out to their full length, the wind ruffling through them and showing the white part of the feathers as they spread apart. Flynn let out a content sigh. It was like sitting in a car for hours and then getting out to stretch your aching legs. "I want to know everything!"

Griffin was looking forward to his play date with Flynn. They needed to catch up on their recent ventures into the dating world, if either could even call it that. He knew she had seen someone and was curious how it went, and of course Flynn was chomping at the bit to find out about his sleepover with Claire. It had been innocent enough, really. Just as expected with him. Griffin was a complete idiot about love and dating. Ask him a question about the Achuar Tribe in the Amazon and he probably had an answer, but love? Dating? Girlfriends? Not Griffin. Not because he couldn't. Certainly he was quite the catch, but it was simply who he was. He just didn't think on those things. Until recently. He liked Claire a great deal, and the more he thought about pursuing something with her, the more he liked the idea of it. He didn't know how to go about it, though and he didn't know if it would even work out. All he knew was he wanted to take her away somewhere she'd never been before. He wanted to watch her discover and explore, to see the look on her face as they walked into the Sydney Opera House or hiked up to see Machu Picchu. He wanted to share those sorts of moments with her, those special once in a lifetime moments. It was an indescribable feeling, one he couldn't recall having before.
They met at their usual spot and then moved through the isle together. Griffin loved this sort of weather. It was perfect for flying in, and he loved flying. They hadn't gone in a while and Flynn certainly could use the practice, and he could use the exercise.
"So how was it? How do they change?" Flynn asked as they set down their things in the woods and he grinned at her enthusiasm. "I want to know everything!". He unzipped his sweatshirt and slid it into his pack, his t-shirt following as Flynn did the same.
"Flynn, it was unbelievable." He said, his voice almost distant with the awe he felt towards the miracle he'd been fortunate enough to witness. "I've never see anything like it. The way her body simply moved from one being to another, it was...I can't even describe it. But it was still Claire! I could tell even in cat form. Her fur was soft and she seemed so confident for a change." He was unfastening his harness and stretching his wings out, which bristled in the cold air. He packed the harness away and moved towards Flynn, reaching up and smoothing a few of her ruffled feathers, preparing her for flight. He knew she could do it on her own, but he noticed the out of place feathers and smoothed them anyway.
"We were curled up on the couch all evening it seemed. I read to her from my journals and we watched a couple of movies before climbing into bed. Waking up with her was just as magical." He moved towards the edge of the woods with Flynn in tow. "Cheyenne burst in first thing in the morning and of course assumed the worst, but I left to get breakfast so Claire could have her moment with her sister. Then we spent the entire day together playing games and watching movies and we went out into the city for a bit. I can't remember enjoying someone else like I did that day. Claire's just.. Claire's so special." He pursed his lips and gave Flynn a deep look, making it clear he didn't know the words to even describe it. He shook his head and looked out at the raging sea below. "She makes my heart skip delightfully." He said with a bashful grin, looking back and Flynn and actually rolling his eyes. "I sound like a fool." He laughed. "But what about you! I know you've got someone special now, don't you?" He raised a brow and readied his wings for flight, ready to take off when she was.

"Flynn, it was unbelievable."
Flynn couldn't help but beam at him when he said those four little words! His face lit up and there was just this sense of bliss that seemed to come over him that she hadn't seen before. "I've never see anything like it. The way her body simply moved from one being to another, it was...I can't even describe it. But it was still Claire! I could tell even in cat form. Her fur was soft and she seemed so confident for a change." She had only met Claire twice but she felt like she knew her quite well with how much Griffin spoke about her. But she was a little quirky in her own way but that was what made her unique in Flynn's opinion.
"We were curled up on the couch all evening it seemed. I read to her from my journals and we watched a couple of movies before climbing into bed. Waking up with her was just as magical." She bit her bottom lip to hide her smiling, her back exposed to Griffin as he smoothed out her feathers. She appreciated his help, glad to have such a wonderful friend to talk to and to fly with! Oh how she loved flying, especially with Griffin there he always made it more enjoyable.
Claire's so special." She giggled a little at what he said about Cheyenne. The woman could be very blunt and Flynn found that it made her feel very uncomfortable, not to mention she thought that Cheyenne didn't like her. "Cheyenne scares me a little. She's so.. forward."
"She makes my heart skip delightfully." Flynn loved hearing things like this! It was so different coming from Griffin and sounded like something in one of her romance novels and she was so happy that her friend could find someone who made him feel that way. "I sound like a fool." His laugh made it clear he was being goodhearted about his words and she shook her head and reached for his hand and giving it a gentle pat with her other hand on top of his. "You sound happy. There's a difference."
"But what about you! I know you've got someone special now, don't you?" Her wings bustled at his question and she couldn't keep herself from blushing a little. Flynn didn't usually get worked up but she couldn't stop herself from it when she thought of Liam. "He's.. wonderful." She was just in awe at the very thought of him. "I bumped into him at the tree one night and then we decided to go out the next night.. Griffin he's a gargoyle!" She hadn't told him that part before and that was the most exciting part of all!

"You sound happy. There's a difference." Flynn's hand cradled his, patting it lightly. He was happy. His gaze moved over to her as she told him about how this new gentleman was wonderful. It brought a content smile to his face, glad that she had found someone that made her heart swell as well. Both of them finding someone at the same time? It was odd, but he reminded himself that he and Claire had been doing their little dance for nearly a year now. He'd met her the previous summer, and the thought made him grin. Perhaps he should get her something. An anniversary gift of sorts; a whole year of friendship and she was still nearly as awkward as the day he'd come into the museum and helped her clean broken glass from the displays.
"I bumped into him at the tree one night and then we decided to go out the next night.. Griffin he's a gargoyle!"
Griffin froze a little. A Gargoyle? He had mixed feelings about it all so suddenly. Didn't they only come out at night? Flynn was a day dweller, how could that work? Words escaped him as he looked at her feeling unsure by this news. He was wonderful she said, so that was good. Griffin would never question her judgement on a person. They were both a little naive when it came to others intentions, but he felt mildly concerned about her ongoing happiness with him.
"But when will you see him?" He asked raising a brow, his hand still tucked within hers, his thumb rubbing her knuckles lightly as they came to the edge of the cliff they were to dive off of. His wings hung limply at his back as he tried to figure out Flynn's predicament. "He's stone during the day, and.. well I suppose you could stay up late." A gentle smile creased his lips, his eyes caring as they gazed it her. It was clear he worried and was concerned for her happiness. "But if he's so wonderful, I'm certain you will find a way to make things work. Could it be serious, you think? Both of us finding Guardians?" Not that he and Claire were an item, but it was becoming increasingly more clear that he had feelings for the young lady. "What's his name?"

Her eyes remained fixated on Griffin, watching his reaction with her bright blue eyes. Griffin looked like he was unsure of what she said and she tilted her head to the side a little and raised a brow at him while the smile remained on her face. "What?" She asked lightly since she knew he would likely tell her.
"But when will you see him?" He rubbed her knuckles with his thumb and it felt nice since her hands were growing cold from the crisp wind that blew. Her wings rustled a bit and she could feel the air going between her feathers gently. "He's stone during the day, and.. well I suppose you could stay up late." She watched the smile spread over his lips and her shoulders heaved up in a shrug as she laughed. "I suppose I could take naps.."
Flynn let go of Griffin's hands and then reached into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out a black hair tie and rolling it onto her wrist so she could grab her hair and pull it up into a high messy ponytail so that it wouldn't whip her in the face while they flew. She wrapped the hair tie around three times and then split her hair in two and gave it a gentle tug in different directions to fix the hair tie firmly at the back of her head. "But if he's so wonderful, I'm certain you will find a way to make things work. Could it be serious, you think? Both of us finding Guardians?" It was amazing that they had both managed to find someone to spend time with. And them being Guardians just made everything that much easier since it wasn't like trying to explain to a human that yes, Guardians are real.
"What's his name?" She didn't answer him just yet as her wings wrapped around the front of her body to try and keep back the wind. It was so chilly without her sweatshirt on and she was wondering how Griffin was able to stand the cold since he was wearing less than her. Then again she knew it wouldn't get any warmer up in the air and she should get used to it. But maybe she could just stay bundled in her own wings for a little while, at least while they talked. "Liam Avery. He lives in your building! Fifth floor," she giggled at the thought and wrapped her arms around herself in a hug, another tactic to keep herself warm.
"I don't know how serious this could be, but they're Guardians! We can be ourselves around them and not have to worry because our secret is theirs as well. We shouldn't over think what we feel, Griffin. We should just feel it and enjoy it. And you over analyze everything," she teased him playfully, "try to enjoy yourself without worrying about it. Claire must be absolutely smitten with you if she's been hanging around you for this long!"

"Liam Avery. He lives in your building! Fifth floor," He tried to recall the face, but couldn't. He would need to look it up later, see if perhaps he could meet this fellow. But then again he was sure when Flynn was ready for him to meet this Liam Avery fellow she would bring him around. Perhaps they could all have supper together and he could invite Claire along. He wondered if Claire would be comfortable with that. She tended to be on the anxious side.
"I don't know how serious this could be, but they're Guardians! We can be ourselves around them and not have to worry because our secret is theirs as well." She made a valid point and he nodded. It was nice to be able to be himself around her. It had taken a long time for him to come clean about what he was, but he had been pleasantly surprised when it turned out she was the same as he in the sense that she was part of the legend. He knew it would have been nice if she were an Avisaille as well, but he adored her just the same, if not more, for being a Therian. He could learn so much more from her. The only problem was she would soon grow to look older than he though she would remain so much younger. It was a curse in that sense, aging so much slower than humans. He couldn't bear the thought of her growing terribly old while he had so many years ahead. But there was no sense worrying about such nonsense now.
"We shouldn't over think what we feel, Griffin. We should just feel it and enjoy it. And you over analyze everything. Try to enjoy yourself without worrying about it. Claire must be absolutely smitten with you if she's been hanging around you for this long!"
Flynn was one of the smartest people Griffin had the honor of knowing. "We have known each other for quite some time.." He knew Claire cared for him. It was the only explanation for her irrational behavior all the time. Then again he'd seen her act that way with others. No, he was sure Flynn was right. Claire liked him. She'd kissed him, after all! "You know I analyze everything. It's what I do.. I like to over think, and right now I think we should get moving or we're going to freeze into icy statues for the world to see. Come, let's fly. The motion will help keep us warm. "
Griffin ushered Flynn to the edge and he stood up straight, his chin pointing upwards towards the sky gracefully. His wings stretched out along with his hands. "On my count." His tone was playful with a hint of seriousness. "One... two... THREE!" He jumped from the cliff, the wind whooshing through his wings as they air seemed to catch him. He flapped hard against the rushing air, feeling his body slow from its downward fall and go upwards. In no time he was straightening himself out above the water, turning to see where Flynn was. She wasn't terribly far behind and he turned his body around, rushing towards her so they could fly together. He gave her a large smile, exhilarated with the rush he felt from doing what he'd been born to. One day he would like to take Claire, though he wasn't entirely sure he could carry her weight. Maybe she could go hang gliding.. yes. That sounded like a marvelous idea!

"We have known each other for quite some time.." Flynn saw the way that Griffin looked at Claire, the way that he would just light up when he was talking about her. And she just couldn't get over how cute they were. If Claire had been born an Avisaille or Griffin a Therian it would have been absolutely perfect. She was certain that was one of the drawbacks to Griffin. "You know I analyze everything. It's what I do.. I like to over think, and right now I think we should get moving or we're going to freeze into icy statues for the world to see. Come, let's fly. The motion will help keep us warm."
Griffin was absolutely right they had to fly or their bodies would stiffen up from the cold and then their wings wouldn't work if they couldn't stop shivering. And Flynn was already at that point of shivering! "On my count." She always grew nervous when it came to flying, getting that worried feeling that she heard some people got when they were about to take off in an airplane. It wasn't a fear of flying it was a fear of falling though. And Flynn was a pro at falling. Flying? Not so much. She unraveled her wings from around her body not longer having a protective barrier from the cold wind and getting hit with it like someone splashed her with ice water.
"One... two... THREE!" Flynn readied her wings and kicked off of the ground, falling a few feet before her wings shot out and caught her. They acted almost like a parachute at first slowing her fall to a glide. She pushed them against the wind to get her up higher into the air and followed Griffin. She had to laugh since being in the air felt like freedom to her. It was just the way they were built, they needed to fly! They needed to spread their wings instead of keep them cooped up in a harness all day long.
"It's so cold!" She called out as the wind whipped her clothes around, shuddering from the chill. But Griffin had been right and the more she pumped her wings the warmer she became. It wasn't like wrapping up in a blanket but it was enough to stop her from shivering and prevent her teeth from chattering.
The pair of them soared through the air, flying around one another and just gliding with the aid of the wind carrying them about. But Flynn could only fly for so long before she grew tired and her wings began to ache. She couldn't fly for too long since her wings weren't used to it. During the winter she would be able to strengthen them more since nobody went to the beach during that time. Her feet touched the cold dirt ground and she let out a sigh and wrapped her arms around her body to try to hug in the warmth. Her hands rubbing up and down her arms for the friction. "Not even one fall!" She chirped obviously pleased with herself and saw him soon touching the ground as well.
"That felt nice. Cold.. but nice! I wish we didn't have to do this when it's so chilly.. wouldn't it just be lovely to fly with the sun out when it's nice and warm?"

"It's so cold!" Griffin just barely made out her voice over the wind whipping through them and he grinned over at her, his tousled hair flipping around. "Keep going!" He bellowed out good naturedly as they went on.
Griffin wasn't one to show off, so he didn't bother doing any tricks in the air. He could do them, but he didn't want to come off as smug, and he didn't want to potentially offend Flynn. He knew he wouldn't be able to, though. That was just the kind of person she was, which was why he spent time with her. Still, he simply flew, enjoying the freedom that came with it.
The choppy water below crashed and when he flew closer her could feel the ocean splash misty water up towards him. It felt cool and sticky and wonderful! Nothing quite like the salty smell of the sea when flying. Griffin kept a firm eye on Flynn as they moved, though. He could hold off much longer than she could and he was a better flier considering he had far more practice. When he saw her moving towards the landing once more he followed her, slightly disappointed his fun was ending so soon, but also grateful for having had the opportunity to go at all, and with Flynn.
"Not even one fall!" She was obviously proud of herself, and Griffin's genuine smile showed he was too. "You looked great out there, Flynn. Like a little bird." It was teasing, but also a compliment. He saw her warming herself up with her hands and he moved quick to get their warmer clothes, feeling the chill himself. "That felt nice. Cold.. but nice! I wish we didn't have to do this when it's so chilly.. wouldn't it just be lovely to fly with the sun out when it's nice and warm?"
He pulled his sweatshirt on as he made his way over to her, carrying hers and holding it out to help her get it on. "It would be lovely." He agreed, his tone soft as he felt his body start to warm slightly. He walked with her out of the clearing and towards the thicker woods where their things were. "I take it you've heard about Mordecai's plan to reveal us?" He asked kneeling down onto the blanket and pulling out Flynn's container of fruit. He looked up int her clear blue eyes. "We would be able to fly any time we wanted.." He said, feeling unsure and then shook his head. "I have very mixed feelings about all of this.." He admitted, popping a grape into his mouth.

She took her sweatshirt from her friend and wasted no time in pulling it up over her head. Her hair was damp from the mist of the water when she'd flown low, and now that they were done for a bit she pulled the hair tie out of her hair and let it hang over her shoulders. She was one of those people who just liked their hair down more than up.
"I take it you've heard about Mordecai's plan to reveal us?" Flynn had heard all about what the leaders had discussed and how their own, Mordecai, had decided that it was in their best interest to reveal themselves to the public. "We would be able to fly any time we wanted.." She sat down on the blanket across from Griffin and picked out a piece of watermelon from the container. "I have very mixed feelings about all of this.."
She allowed her eyes to look up into Griffin's and she nodded kindly, knowing exactly how he felt on the matter. "I'm wary too." Flynn said softly and bit into the juicy chunk of watermelon and finishing it before she spoke again, "History has taught us that people don't agree with change at first. They do what they can to try and stop it, acting out with fear, hatred and anger. It would be wonderful to be able to stretch out our wings and go to the beach when it's sunny out to swim with everybody else.. but I don't think that's how it will be."
The thoughts of people with signs picketing the Avisailles came to mind, she saw people standing around shouting how they were heathens and children of the devil.. she couldn't help but think that those who were extreme in their religions would cast them as sinners more than saints. But there were those who believed that they would think they were angels. But which would it be, a holy being or an abomination?
"But there's a light at the end of every tunnel, and if they hate us now they'll learn to welcome us and see us as equals. It will just take time and dedication, and if we have to endure this hardship so future generations can fly freely, then wouldn't it be worth it?" Flynn's words weren't just for Griffin but for herself as well, it was as if she was trying to convince the both of them that there was some good that could come from it.
"I just don't know if I'm ready for a change this big.. it was difficult enough showing my wings to one person and now we're going to show them to the world?"

"History has taught us that people don't agree with change at first. They do what they can to try and stop it, acting out with fear, hatred and anger. It would be wonderful to be able to stretch out our wings and go to the beach when it's sunny out to swim with everybody else.. but I don't think that's how it will be." He only nodded, agreeing with her. He had read into many culture's histories and it was always the same. People hated changed, and they resisted it. Not only that, they would often fight against it. If history repeated itself, Avisaille's would probably end up in chains or as slaves, but that was worst case scenario. More likely they would be segregated. He didn't know, but he didn't entirely trust the humans to respect their lives in the way they should. On the other hand, Mordecai wouldn't thrust them into danger. He would have a plan. "No, it certainly wouldn't be that simple. I would imagine there would be some restraints on what we could and could not do. At least for a time." He agreed. How lovely it would be to fly in the sun once more. It had been years since he had; not since he returned from his voyage around the world.
"But there's a light at the end of every tunnel, and if they hate us now they'll learn to welcome us and see us as equals. It will just take time and dedication, and if we have to endure this hardship so future generations can fly freely, then wouldn't it be worth it?" He nodded, but sadly. He would hate to have to endure those hardships, but if it meant future generations would have the freedom to go without a harness, then it would all be worth it. A light smile came to his face. "No one could hate you." He said gently, almost teasing as he picked a piece of cantaloupe up and popped it into his mouth.
"I just don't know if I'm ready for a change this big.. it was difficult enough showing my wings to one person and now we're going to show them to the world?" Griffin sighed and shook his head. "No.." He told her softly, reaching for her hand. It was like ice! He took her hands in his and raised them to his lips, breathing his warm breath onto them and rubbing his thumb over hers to try and warm them, the poor thing. "It won't be like that, Flynn. It won't be as simple as us just showing our wings. We've spent our lifetime concealing them, it would be like for humans to walk around topless all the time. We'll still have our privacy for a very long time. Mordecai wouldn't throw us out there like that. It was difficult when I showed Claire my wings as well. I think we'll be allowed to show them at our discretion. Nothing needs to really change.. that's the beauty of this I suppose." He offered. "In time we'll simply have the option. We can go to the beach wearing what we want, the harnesses don't need to stop us. That's the upside to all of this; personal freedom. But your points have all been valid ones that I've thought of and fear." Another long, warming breath on her hands, which he felt warm in his own as he continued to caress them lovingly like a father would.
"You have nothing to fear, Flynn. Not yet. We're a strong species and have an equally strong community. We're gentle people, and they will see that immediately. I don't think the worst will come of us... Or at least I hope." He let go of her hands. "Better?"

When Griffin grabbed her hands and started to blow on them with his hot breath she didn't think much of it. They'd been friends for so long and thought nothing more of each other than dear friends that it didn't make her think twice just as she was sure it was the same for him. She would do the same if his hands were cold. She scooted a little closer so that she didn't have to lean in so much and be uncomfortable.
Griffin spoke about how he thought things would go if the Avisailles were outed as a species. Of course he was right; Mordecai wasn't going to just allow them to walk out one day and show their wings. There would be steps to do it in a safe manner and it would take time. Rome wasn't built in a day just like they wouldn't have their freedom in a day. She didn't like the thought of segregation. Would the change cause riots and innocent Avisailles being hauled to jail simply because of what they were? She couldn't think like that and Griffin was right, it would just give them the privilege to share their wings with whoever they chose to. It didn't mean they had to go and tell everyone what they were.
"You have nothing to fear, Flynn. Not yet. We're a strong species and have an equally strong community. We're gentle people, and they will see that immediately. i don't think the worst will come of us... Or at least I hope. Better?" When he let go of her hands she rubbed her palms together and then set them in her lap. "Much! Thank you!" She reached for one of the grapes and popped it in her mouth and then repeated the hand rubbing to make sure they didn't grow cold again and realized it would just be best if she pulled her sleeves down over her hands and curled her fingers around the fabric so her sleeves were like mittens keeping her hands warm!
"I worry about what will happen. It came as a surprise and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea." She could hear the wind as it blew through the leaves and the branches dancing over their heads. Even on the gloomiest day it was still beautiful.
"Have you spoken to Claire about it? I heard the Therianthropes don't want any part of it." It didn't sit right with her the way they were choosing different paths. She felt the Guardians should stick together like they always had. Although from what she knew of the leaders it always sounded as if they only looked out for their own kind. She would welcome any Guardians and call them family and she was sure that Griffin was the same way. He had Claire and she had Liam, two very different Guardians. So why couldn't they stick together?

"I worry about what will happen. It came as a surprise and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea." Griffin nodded, understanding exactly what she meant. He himself was still trying to figure it all out. It was tough to really wrap his mind around it, setting his wings free. It was such an alien thought! He had been trained not to let anyone see and nearly sixty years of habit could soon potentially be reversed. "It certainly was a surprise." He agreed with a nod. "Have you spoken to Claire about it? I heard the Therianthropes don't want any part of it." He shook his head slowly. He had heard the same thing as Flynn. He didn't blame them. In fact, he was surprised the Gargoyles seemed on board with the whole thing. Griffin would have thought they would be against it. Then again, he never dreamed they would be in this situation at all. "I have't yet, but I would be interested in finding out her thoughts." He said thoughtfully, picking at the fruit. "I would imagine she would have mixed feelings, too. I'm actually looking forward to that conversation. Claire tends to be eloquent when she's discussing something she's passionate about, and I have a good feeling she will be passionate about this." Griffin knew Claire nearly a year, and he knew by now what made her tick. this would definitely have her ticking. Griffin leaned onto his side, propping his elbow up and cradling his head with his hand. "Only time will really tell what will happen with all of this.
