Features: Brandon is 6’1’’ and well built due to his work as a fisherman. He has a kind face when he smiles with light brown hair and brown eyes. His jaw is strong and he has high cheekbones, giving him an almost noble look, which gets played down by how scruffy he is. For a Hispanic man, he is on the paler side, which is reminiscent of the bald eagle his wings take after. He has an intense stare like an eagle too, and a tough look to him.
Sexual Preference [Optional]: Straight as an arrow
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Native American
Marks/Tattoos/Visible Scars: A cross tattoo on his right shoulder.

Flaws/Weaknesses: Brandon is a hothead and overprotective of his little sister Melanie. He often gets into fights, and he lets people get under his skin too easily. Being an Avisaille, though, it’s easy for him to break his bones, and has done so on several occasions, always to his sister’s dismay. He can be stand-offish and sometimes doesn’t know where to draw the line.
Skills/Strengths: Brandon is, under his tough exterior, a nice guy. He is fiercely loyal to his friends, and he actually has a lot of them. He’s funny and smart and always up to try something new. He’s physically strong and quite fast, and he’s got the courage to face his problems. If you can manage to get on his good side, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.

History: Before she passed away, Brandon was very close to his mother. He inherited the light color of her hair, and Nancy always doted on him as her baby boy. When his little sister Melanie was born, his mother told him to look after her, and that’s just what he did. They were virtually inseparable. Nancy had been weak ever since Melanie was born, and when she got pregnant a third time, it was too much for her body. His youngest sister was stillborn and his mother died during childbirth, leaving Brandon and Melanie with their father. Wade Garcia was a quiet, kind man, who did what he could to provide for his family. He was prone to fits of depression, however, and there would be days over the years when he just couldn’t get out of bed. Brandon couldn’t stand to be around his father when he was like this, not liking to see such weakness in him, and he let his little sister comfort him. It wasn’t that he didn’t love his father, but he believed he should be able to be strong for his family. He also knew he just didn’t understand his father’s illness. When Wade went into these fits of depression, Brandon took over as man of the house and would do what his father was supposed to do, like making sure his sister did her homework. He grew up fast and found that if he was going to get what he wanted and needed in life, he would have to learn to speak up for himself and for Melanie.
Brandon was Melanie’s polar opposite. Where she was sweet and quiet, Brandon was tough and loud. He was popular in school and he made a lot of friends, but he also made a lot of enemies. Several boys at the school just didn’t like his attitude, and Brandon got into a lot of fights with them, always to his sister’s dismay. He saw how some people took advantage of her kindness and how some of the kids even made fun of her for being “weird” just because she was quiet. If he heard or saw this going on, he would hunt down the kids doing it and threaten them until they stopped. But even though it frustrated him, he wanted to protect that innocence in Melanie. She was the only person who could calm him and make him feel loved, and he didn’t want that to change. When she began to exhibit the same penchant for melancholy that their father did, he grew angry with Wade, but also with himself. During those times, he felt like it was his fault, like he just couldn’t make her happy because of something he had done. He saw the same weakness in her that he saw in his father, and it infuriated him; his father should have been stronger, then Melanie would know to be stronger too. But he was never angry with her; he just tried to help her as best he could, though he found it hard to stomach her sorrow.
When he finally grew old enough to fly, Brandon relished in the freedom. He was the first in his group that year to take the leap, and he did so with a young man’s courage. It was exhilarating. With his wings, he could leave behind all the darkness of his house and forget about his father’s weakness and sorrow. He could even bear to be apart from Melanie and do things on her own. Brandon was a fantastic flyer and took to the skies as often as he could. When it came time for Melanie to fly, it was hard to let her take the leap, afraid she would hurt herself, but she managed to fend off his worry and dive in. He was relieved she was as good a flyer as he was. His relationship with his father began to mend when he came flying with Brandon and Melanie, and Brandon realized he hadn’t given his father much of a chance since his mother passed.
He did well in school and excelled in sports, though it left him with several broken bones. He loved track and running, since it felt like flying, but he also enjoyed soccer. His part time job in school was working on his father’s boat and chasing off the boys who came to date his sister. His sister was pretty, and he knew he couldn’t do it forever, but he couldn’t stand the thought of Melanie with the losers they went to school with. Even his friends weren’t good enough for her, though many tried. Most of them ended up with a fist in the face and avoided talking about it with Brandon again. When it was time for him to start traveling, he didn’t want to leave her alone, but she just smiled and pushed him out of the door, almost literally. He just smiled and did as she bid him, giving his father a bear hug before he left. Weekends on the boat had brought them closer, and he realized that perhaps it was weakness in his father, but he was still his father. That had to be more important than anything. He didn’t know it would be the last time he would see him, but he was glad he got to share that last embrace with him.
Already fluent in Spanish, Brandon travelled to South America first. In poorer areas, he would give what little money he had to children and mothers and lent a helping hand to the men where it was needed. It was more gratifying than anything else he had done in his life. After a year there, he decided he would see the rest of the world, but he feared nothing would be as beautiful as South America. He was wrong. His time in Europe showed him not only natural beauty, but manmade beauty as well. He climbed mountains and soared from the peaks, but he also explored winding alleyways in the cities. Every city was exciting and beautiful, and he fell in love especially with the beauty of Ireland. The rustic beauty of the land and the stormy weather of the island fit in perfectly with him, even the friendliness of the people. He became fluent in Italian, French, German, Portuguese and even learned some Gaelic.
After five years, his sister contacted him in tears, asking him to come home. Their father, in one of his fits of melancholy, had tied a rock around his waist and jumped from a cliff on Megsie Isle into the sea below. Another Avisaille had found his body, but they hadn’t known any way to contact his family. Brandon was devastated. He was an orphan and he had to take care of his sister. All these years from her had made it easier to distance himself from her, but now he needed to be by her side, knowing she would be even more devastated than he was. And she was; for six months she could barely manage to get herself out of bed to eat and bathe. Brandon did all he could to console her, but very little of what he did seemed to help. He stayed with her and put his traveling on hold for the six months it took her to get better. He stayed with her night and day, but finally she got better and he felt safe enough to go back to his travels.
Another five years, and he came home, ready to take over his father’s business. He had done a lot of partying while away from home, but he was all partied out. It was time to get serious. By the time his sister returned three years later, his boat, the Wayne, was well established as a fishing boat in the marina. He took care of both of them while she studied to become a nurse and paid all of their bills as well as he could. When at last she could support them too, he began to be more open to taking new recruits onto his boat and train them for life as a fisherman. He built himself a reputation as a shrewd businessman and a good friend, if a little hotheaded and perhaps too playful with the new guys on his ship. Though he has taking up giving Melanie much more freedom in her personal life, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t butt in every now and then. He’s still her overprotective older brother with a bit of a wild streak, and he worries more about her personal life than his own.
