Flaws/Weaknesses: Liam can come off as lofty or arrogant due to his quiet and brooding nature. He is a know-it-all as well and doesn’t take criticism well. If you tell him he’s wrong, he will argue until you give up. Liam is also very slow to trust and suspicious by nature.
Skills/Strengths: Liam is extremely smart. He’s never taken an IQ test, finding tests dull and not worth his time, but if he did, he would probably score above 170. He is also very observant and nothing escapes his notice. Though he’s quiet, Liam is also very loyal to the people he comes to trust, even if he doesn’t express it. Challenge him, either physically or intellectually, and you may very possibly regret it.

- Tests (though he always does well on them)
Other Information: Though he’s quiet, stoic, and cynical, Liam is generally a nice guy.

History: William Ernest Avery was born to John and Julia Avery on Halloween night of 1923. His mother doted on him, but his father was always rather cold and distant. His father was also much older than his mother, so his mother was left with most of the responsibility for him. As a result, Liam never grew close with his father and was not upset at his death in his younger years. Being so close to his mother, however, he has come to be very respectful of women. When she passed, he was devastated and withdrew from the world even more.
He has always been a quiet person, preferring to observe than to participate. Growing up, he excelled in every subject, finding the greatest pleasure when he had his nose in a book. This separated him further from his peers, but he wasn’t unfriendly. Observing from the rooftops, he became very interested in people, though he didn’t necessarily like to be around them. He often wondered what made them tick, and the more he observed, the more interested he became in psychology. Delving into this new passion, he found the greatest interest in the minds of criminals.
When it came time for him to choose his career path as a Gargoyle, he chose to be a Guardian, despite his leaning to be an Adventurer. His mother and father were both Guardians and he decided to follow in their footsteps. Though his mother was proud he decided to follow her example, she made Liam seriously consider his decision before he made it. Being a Guardian would not stop him from continuing his studies, however, so he went through the training. Most of the scars on his body are a result of the rigorous and cruel training he received. Upon finishing his training, he was satisfied with his decision, as his physical condition now matched his mental one.
Liam began working part time for the police department on their most difficult cases, helping them whenever their own minds hit a dead end. He has preferred working without a partner, trusting his mind much more than the minds of others, and this has been easy, being on the nightshift. The rest of his time is devoted to his work as a Guardian, lending his abilities wherever they are needed. His life is his work and he rarely indulges in the company of other people. He has few friends, but those he has he holds onto. He has long since come to believe love is an illusion, however beautiful, and he has never experienced it for himself. As a result of his part-time career as a criminologist and his training to become a Guardian, he has become jaded and cynical. His guard is never down and he has long since forgotten what it's like to shut off his brain entirely.
RP Sample: From the rooftop, Liam could see everything. The men getting kicked out of the bar for fighting, the owner screaming he would call the cops if they ever tried it again. He could see the three women stumbling out, arm in arm, laughing hysterically at some inside joke. They were sloppy drunk, so he didn’t find that cackling attractive at all. He liked his women coherent. He even saw the lovers, the man’s arm wrapped protectively around her waist, the way she smiled up at him. They paused, smiling at each other, beaming really, before he leaned down and kissed her. Liam could hear her giggle through the kiss, and he was mildly interested by the sight. It wasn’t that he had never known a woman. He had known plenty, inside and out. Yet he had never found one that made him as happy as the woman below obviously made the man beside her. They seemed so happy. To find happiness, there had to be trust. Women normally couldn’t abide Liam’s cool, collected demeanor long enough for him to trust them, and he no longer made an effort to. It wasn’t that he didn’t want love; he did. He wanted to know what drove men to kill for a woman, what made a man risk everything for a woman. He couldn’t understand what went on in the minds of lovers if he had never known love. It was untapped knowledge in his mind, yet it seemed wholly impossible he would ever be able to explore it. He could hear his mother now, sitting on her own rooftop, saying, “Well, if you weren’t so brooding all the time…” The thought made him smile a little. Perhaps he would stop by and see her in the cemetery before dawn.
