She took advantage of the fairly mild weather to soak up the sun's rays. It wasn't hot, but the sun shone through spots in the clouds. She leaned against a tree in the busy quad. It was still leafless so the sun had no troubles shining through the branches. She was studying for an exam she had to take before break started. School was more difficult than she thought but a struggle was not something she ran from.
She loved books and writing. If she wasn't messing around, laughing, or joking with friends, Nicole was reading. Her nose was constantly in a book. Nothing could stop her from reading a good love story or a wild adventure in the west. All books suited her, and all books touched her heart. They were more like friends to her.
Nicole was wearing a aqua colored zip up hoodie over a Greenwolfe U t-shirt. Her skinny jeans were topped with her favorite white studded belt. Her laced up, all black, converse covered her feet. She wasn't dressed in anything fancy, of course, because she just came from a class. Comfort was top priority for Nicole when it came to sitting through a whole hour of math.
The quad was pretty packed. A couple guys were playing football nearby and she couldn't help but glance at them. Although she was 41, she looked 21 and felt 21. And they were hot. She'd be a kid forever. At least she hoped that. Nicole's immaturity was something she cherished. She loved it all. The parties here at the college suited her personality just fine.
Friends and flings came and went. She didn't keep tabs with many people.
Of course she did have a few she remembered. Speaking of which, just as she glanced up from her book, a girl who looked none other than Professor Zoey Clark was walking by. Nicole picked up a good sized stick, and chucked it in her general direction. Hoping it hit her as she playfully called out, "Duck, Zoey!" Secretly, Nicole was hoping the blonde lived up to her hair color and she wouldn't duck. Not that she was mean or a bully, she just loved messing around with the few friends she held in her range. If she made fun of you, you know she liked you. A bright, blazing smile was across Nicole's face as the stick flew through the air.

Paleontology.
Why had she decided to teach that for the semester? She wasn't a big fan of dinosaurs, but she did love the outdoors. Maybe it was because she knew she could get away with field trips that would lead her outside! For Zoey, paleontology had come easy for her. She was a whiz when it came to different subjects and her diversity showed on her resume. She'd taught several different subjects at Greenwolfe University, but her current pair were paleontology and an English course.
Her morning schedule was booked with classes to teach, preferring to get them done in the morning. Being what she was, she loved the early morning hours and was always bright eyed and bushy tailed when it came to starting the day off. Not that she could say the same for her students.
After her morning courses were done in paleontology she knew she had to head to the other side of the campus and prepare for her English classes that she taught in the afternoon. With her book bag slung over her shoulder and a pear in her hand she set out of that building and proceeded to walk across the campus. To those who hadn't taken her classes, she looked like none other than a fellow student. Other professors always asked what her secret was to look so youthful (she'd told them she was in her thirties although she looked early twenties but was actually in her forties) and she would reply that it was simply in her genes.
The bright sun felt nice on her face and she shut her eyes for a quick second, absorbing the warm rays when she heard her name called. When she opened her eyes and turned to where she'd heard the voice she was too late to duck! In fact, she didn't even hear her call out to duck. By the time she had heard her the only thing she'd recognized was her name. The stick flew towards her face and her hands went up to try and fend it off. Only her reflexes didn't get in on time and the stick beat her hands, hitting her square in the forehead and bouncing off.
The surprise and the sudden glances of onlookers caused Zoey to stand there a little frazzled. Her eyes panning around before she spotted the culprit and proceeded to purse her lips and head in her direction. "You could poke an eye out throwing sticks at people you know!" Not waiting for an invitation she took a seat and dropped her book bag down in front of her and looked at the only person she knew to be guilty; Nicole. Although her forehead had a slight pink mark where she'd been hit she didn't take it to heart. In fact she was smiling and tried to even grab a strand of Nicole's hair to give it a little yank.

Nicole's laughter was practically a roar. She clenched her mid section and belted out hysterically. Zoey's look was priceless! The stick had done it's job and she was proud of it's deed. She couldn't even reply to her right away, her laughter bringing tears to her eyes. She could feel people staring at her but heck she didn't care! That was hilarious!
It wasn't until she felt her hair being pulled that Nicole stopped laughing, wiping her eyes and showing her cocky smile. "I think I should try out for the softball team." She said with a chuckle and finally a smirk. She liked Zo's good nature, happy she didn't get pissed at her. This is why they were still friends, she could take Nicole's shit. With a smile even.
"So, you up to grab some lunch, Professor?" She liked teasing her about her teaching career. She looked so young, being a Blurr and all. She could pass as a student, which was good, and bad, for her. There were multiple occasions where she witnessed a guy trying to hit on her. Nicole got a kick out of those. Zoey always was more mature than Nicole, it's just how it was, and handled those situations professionally.
Almost instinctively, Nicole glanced back at the group of college kids playing football. In fact, one was running backwards, straight towards the two girls. A ball was twisting through the air, a perfect spiral. Nicole had just enough time to notice the smirk on the QB before the running student crash landed directly between the girls. She was shocked of course, but knew what was coming up next. That QB knew exactly how far he threw that ball, he was going fishing for girls.
The "running back" glanced at both Nicole and Zoey before adding, "Well hello there girls." He was smirking as well, the whole time. She had to hide her amusement. Nicole was almost laughing again. Boys will be boys.

"You're a little heathen, you know that?" Zoey said almost right away when Nicole finally ceased her laughter. The fellow Blurr always seemed to be laughing. If not with Zoey then at her, and she was okay with that. There was something wrong if you couldn't laugh at yourself every now and again! But what Zoe really liked about Nicole's laughter was it was contagious. Loud and an eye catcher, but it was contagious and Zoey had to laugh along with her, shaking her head from side to side and causing her blonde ponytail to hit her in the face from either side with each head turn.
When asked about lunch she nodded her head this time and her ponytail bobbed playfully. "You betcha! I have a few minutes to spare before my next class." She told her and was about to get ready to go grab some food but that's when the running back came between them and she looked at him curiously.
Her eyes moved to the direction he had just come from and she could see the playfulness on the face of the one who had thrown the ball. It was a common thing with the college boys, to make it seem like they 'accidentally' bumped into a group of girls. Or in their case, Nicole and Zoey. Except they weren't the usual air headed girls!
The girl glanced over to her friend, just a glimmer of a smile playing over her lips before her eyes widened almost innocently and she turned her attention to the boy. "Well hello! It's flattering that you would think we would enjoy your company, and used your football as your means of a conversation starter, but we're not interested." She offered, but had a feeling that Nicole had a different idea. The girl usually did. And although she probably shouldn't, she wanted to hear what her friend had to say to these boys.

She snickered as Zo "innocently" told them off. Nicole thought about drawing out this little meeting, but decided lunch with Zoey was more important. Plus, she was pretty hungry. So she simply added, with a cocky little smile, "So, basically, you and Tom Brady can take a hike, buddy." He poked him in the chest as she spoke to influence her demand, she couldn't resist a quick strength test either. He could work out more, she thought to herself.
She watched as the guy pouted and stood. He walked off with his tail between his legs. She winked at "Tom Brady" jokingly before pulling her focus back to the girl. She was packing up her books in her bag as she addressed Zoey again. "When was the last time you had a good fling?" She was always blunt in her questions. Nicole was genuinely curious. What guy would have the skill to capture Zoey's attention for one night? She was hard to get, unlike herself. Nicole was always looking for a good time. Unless you count love, Nicole doesn't fall in love easily.
"What are you craving? I'm thinkin' Mexican." She was always thinking Mexican. It was her favorite by far. She always got the hottest food at each place. Each Mexican restaurant had it's own different burning sensation on her tongue. She should've been Mexican. "Or there's always the cafe on campus." That was closer, but a bit pricier. Sometimes it was worth eating there. When gas prices were up for example, or when they served their soup specials.
Nicole managed to get to her feet, despite her laziness, and grabbed her bag. She swung it over one shoulder before offering Zoey a hand up. Nicole laughed and made fun a lot, but she was kind. She took care of people she liked. The few friends she trusted knew she had her soft side. It was just sheltered is all.

"Mmm as tempting as mexican sounds, I have another class in forty-five minutes. We'll never make it back in time!" Zoey pulled out her cell phone and glanced at the illuminated screen for a moment to confirm what she said. She actually had forty-eight, but she was close enough.
She grabbed at Nicole's extended hand and used it to help her up to her feet and dusted herself off a bit. One thing about the benches on campus was you could never tell when you'd sit on something gooey, slimey, wet or cold. Especially since it rained a lot and people spilled drinks even more. But the seat of her jeans were nice and dry and she wouldn't look like a fool walking around with a wet butt! That was always a plus.
Zoey gave one more look towards the jocks and then laughed to herself and rolled her eyes with a little shake of her head. "Boys, boys boys.." She muttered and had a little skip in her step making her ponytail bounce around just as playful as ever.
"You know the cafe has tacos! Although I think that's on Tuesdays.. and today is.. Thursday. Right?" Zoey could hardly remember the days of the week! Time went by so fast and she aged so slow. Time was never something she kept all that well!
"There's going to be a bake sale next week. You should come help out. Or rather, you should come and eat them all!"
