“Yeah, see you in the morning,” he replied with a kind smile, escorting her to the door. “Be careful getting home, I don’t want to see you in the drunk tank when I get to the station in the morning.”
Rebecca raised a brow at his tease and then let out a light chuckle, rolling her eyes. "Goodnight, Jack." She said pleasantly, an air of amusement hidden in her tone. She let herself out feeling far calmer than she had going in there that evening. Jack turned out to be a pretty decent guy, and his house wasn't a pigsty like she had half expected it to be. She respected the man a great deal more after this evening.
When she got to the car she sat there for a long moment, considering how things should be now. She didn't want him to think she was cold and callous tomorrow when she inevitably went back to being her normal self, but at the same time she didn't want him to think this had changed things too much. She needed the guys to think she was tough and if she was nice to Jack they would think they could get to her easily.
Rebecca decided to not let it eat at her, not tonight. She had a long enough night and she needed to get some sleep. she drove home, content for the first time in a while.
