Maxi smiled wide as they shook hands. Shaking hands was a good thing! It wasn't until their hands pulled apart that she realized the cool tone in both of their voices, their eyes sizing each other up. Oh dear. She sensed a pissing contest beginning. But, hoping she was wrong, she stood smiling between them. August offered for Becky to make herself at home, but she didn't sit. Her scale of uneasiness tipped just a little more. Still, she was smiling. "How is it you know Miss McManus again?" Her eyes looked at him, surprised. Why was he asking? First he wasn't interested in meeting Becky, and now he was asking about their history together. It was sweet in her mind. She wasn't really paying attention to the countdown he had given her.
"We grew up together," Becky answered simply. Well, Maxi supposed it was true. She had still appeared physically not much older than Becky when they first met, so it wasn't entirely wrong to say they grew up together. Actually, it was pretty accurate. They had learned so many things together, which was what made Becky so special to Maxi. And she understood why she didn't go into further detail about how they knew each other; Maxi didn't like to talk about her family's death either. If August wanted to know the details, he could asked Maxi about it later, but not in front of Jack. At least Maxi was sure Rebecca wouldn't want her coworker to know about it. Not now, anyway.
"And how is it you know Miss McManus?" Rebecca asked it in such a way that Maxi was sure this would be the start of the main leg of the pissing contest. Why weren't they calling her Maxi or Maxine? Why were they calling her Miss McManus? She was standing right there, it wasn't like they were strangers. She watched with uneasy eyes as they went back to August. She asked him the question, so he could answer it, but she hoped he wouldn't be rude.

"We grew up together," Ah, she wasn't one for giving details. It only amused him though he tried not to smirk too much. He was about to press her when she shot the questions right back at him. "And how is it you know Miss McManus?" He was unsure if he should be angry or chuckle at her forwardness. Either way she had thrown him for a loop, not expecting her to ask that question.
His eyes wandered to Maxine wondering if he should be good or not. She had invited this woman over without his permission and delayed the time he had with her. Their time was limited and the previous evening had been destroyed. He still, in his eyes, needed to punish her. "Oh, she didn't tell you?" He asked, looking almost curious and amused, but those cold eyes stormed dangerously.
"Maxine and I met in a liquor store." He offered, having the feeling she'd heard this story before, or a variation of it. "We became very fast friends." His tone was coy and his look smug. It was just barely subtle. Enough to not mortify his gazelle to the point her cheeks turned the shade of her hair, but enough to know he wasn't willing to play completely nicely for her sake. "We spent the evening getting well acquainted, didn't we Maxine?" He asked, his brow raising as he looked her over. Fifteen minutes.
"Can I offer you either a glass of wine?" He asked, his tone mock courteous

"Oh, she didn't tell you?" She had, but Rebecca wanted to hear it form his mouth. She watched him cautiously like he was about to attack. Something about him rubbed her the wrong way and she was suddenly feeling more vulnerable without her clothes and gun. Why hadn't she taken a minute to assess the situation and get dressed before darting out the door?
"Maxine and I met in a liquor store." Yeah.. that sounded right so far. "We became very fast friends." The woman frowned. He wasn't very subtle, that was for sure. Becca looked at Maxi for a second before looking away as August continued to be passive aggressive. "We spent the evening getting well acquainted, didn't we Maxine?"
What did she see in this volatile man? Most guys tried to impress their girlfriends friends, but she reminded herself that he wasn't her boyfriend. They were fuck buddies or something. She suddenly felt even less comfortable there and she wanted to take Jack and get the hell out of there, which was probably August's intention. He was surely doing this to make them want to leave.
"Can I offer you either a glass of wine?"
Ugh. She officially didn't like him. "No. Thank you." She grumbled and looked at Jack to see if he was as disgusted as she was. August could win this little battle, she didn't want to know anything more. "I should really get going. Jack and I have to be in early tomorrow to work on an assignment." She lied, looking to him to verify her bullshit. "Right, Jack?" She asked, her tone annoyed and maybe a little hurt.
All she'd wanted was to see Maxi and this prick had to fuck it all up.

Jack felt very uncomfortable in the middle of this pissing contest. One shared uneasy gaze with Maxine, and he could tell she was uncomfortable with it too. Witt was taking a tone that Jack didn't like while talking about Maxine. He was intentionally trying to rile Rebecca up by talking about how he and Maxine met in a liquor store and spent an evening getting acquainted. Even Jack knew what that meant. For some reason Maxine took him home or went home with him that night and...well, it was pretty obvious what happened. It was weird, because she didn't read like the type that would just go home with a guy. He must have been quite convincing...somehow.
Either way, he didn't like Witt taunting Rebecca like that. All he could think was if one of his sisters' boyfriends provoked him like that. They would be in for a hell of a beat down if they tried that with him. His brows her low over his eyes, letting Witt know he didn't like what he was doing. Thankfully, Rebecca didn't take the bait. "Can I offer you either a glass of wine?" He could offer, but Jack wasn't biting. "No thanks," he replied a little gruffly in unison with Rebecca. Her blue green eyes flashed to him and he affirmed to her that he didn't like him either. When she began speaking, he briefly let his eyes go back to Witt's face. Maxine could do better, he was sure of it. "I should really get going. Jack and I have to be in early tomorrow to work on an assignment." His eyes came to hers, knowing she was lying and willing to back her up on it. "Right, Jack?" He nodded, noting the hint of sadness in her voice. She must have been disappointed to leave so soon, but she had to know she would see Maxine again soon. "Yeah, big day tomorrow," he agreed in his deep voice, nodding to Maxine with a small smile.
He stepped forward and offered his hand to the little lady. "It was a pleasure meeting you Maxine, given the circumstances," he told her, giving her and genuinely pleased smile. She returned it and took his hand in a good shake. "You too, Jack. Thank you for all your hard work." He just smiled wider. She really was a nice lady. He offered his hand to Witt next, not looking nearly as friendly, but not showing just how much he really disliked him. "Mr. Witt, thanks for your cooperation," he said. After a firm handshake, he looked to Rebecca, wanting to walk her out and make sure she was all right after everything.

“Oh, she didn’t tell you?” Maxi didn’t like the sound of that at all, or the devious look in August’s eyes. He was too much of a gentleman to tell Becky the dirty details, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t allude to what happened that night. And allude he did. “Maxine and I met in a liquor store. We became very fast friends.” Maxi was mortified. Her cheeks were pink and she looked up at August warily. Had she not mentioned Becky was like a little sister to her? Of course Becky knew what happened between them, but that didn’t mean he had to talk about it! “We spent the evening getting well acquainted, didn’t we Maxine?” Her face flushed even more. “Yes, we did,” she said simply, wanting desperately to move on. It was one thing for her to tell Becky that she had gotten down and dirty with someone, but she never harped on it long, and Becky did the same. Sex wasn’t something they discussed in great detail since Becky was in high school.
“Can I offer you either a glass of wine?” Thank God he was changing the subject. Becky looked green in the gills and Maxi didn’t want to see her take a swing at August. Or Jack, for that matter, with the look on his face. He obviously didn’t like this uncomfortable conversation either. Both cops declined the drink, which was for the best anyway. August obviously was trying to chase them away, and he had her on a time crunch. Not that she was really paying attention to the time, though. “I should really get going. Jack and I have to be in early tomorrow to work on an assignment. Right, Jack?” Jack agreed, but Maxi wondered if there was really an assignment, or if Becky was trying to escape before she slugged August in the face.
Jack came forward and offered Maxi is huge hand, and she took it with a wide smile. “It was a pleasure meeting you Maxine, given the circumstances.” Maxi’s smile grew wider and she nodded. “You too, Jack. Thank you for all your hard work,” she said genuinely. She really was glad he was there to diffuse the situation. Becky needed a calming influence like him. As Jack turned to August, Maxi turned to Becky and hugged her tightly around the neck. “I’m so sorry for all the trouble, Becky. I promise I’ll see you tomorrow or the next day. We’ll do lunch or something, okay?” That had to be okay with everybody. It was during the day, so she would be safe and it wouldn’t bust into August’s time with her and Becky got to have some good alone time with Maxi. It worked in everybody’s favor. When she pulled back, she gave her a big apologetic smile as if to say she didn’t want to see her go and sorry for August being an ass. Becky was good at reading her face, so she was certain she would get it. August was so selfish with her, really.

"Yeah, big day tomorrow," She was glad he agreed, but still so disappointed with this entire situation. Maxi had gone missing and she was glad her friend was okay but angry she was with this asshole who mas making it difficult to be around her. She shot Maxine a very forced smile before looking back down at her feet. "It was a pleasure meeting you Maxine, given the circumstances," Jack was a nice guy, Becca noted. And professional. He kept his wits about him despite the whole situation, which was to be expected given his profession, but still a breath of fresh air. She was having a hard time keeping her cool around this Witt guy. "You too, Jack. Thank you for all your hard work."
She watched as Jack said his farewells to Witt and turned to Maxi, letting out a long, deep breath through her nose. “I’m so sorry for all the trouble, Becky. I promise I’ll see you tomorrow or the next day. We’ll do lunch or something, okay?” Her arms wrapped around Maxi tight, shutting her eyes and she relished in the woman's touch. She was so glad she was okay.
"I'm just glad you're okay." She said softly into her hair, refusing to look at Witt. "Lunch would be nice." She grumbled, having every intention of making Maxi stick to those plans. She wanted to hound her about being with the Witt guy and how he was bad news, even if he did save her. The whole thing just seemed so off to her. "I'll call you in the morning." She insisted, still sounding grumpy.
She pulled away and looked at Jack, then Witt. "Glad I finally met you." There was something dark in her tone, making it clear she wasn't glad to know him, just glad she had been able to size him up. "Be careful." Rebecca warned Maxi softly, giving August one last wary look before heading towards the door with Jack. She moved silently to the elevator and waited, turning to Jack as the elevator climbed towards their floor to bring them back down to the lobby.
"I don't trust him." She spat softly towards Jack in a voice that was barely audible, glaring back towards Witt's door. "I don't like him and I don't trust him. He's bad news." She finally looked up at her tall, dashing colleague. "Or is that just typical gargoyle?"

"No. Thank you." Inwardly he was grinning at her uneasiness. He had won the little battle, but he could see clearly that she wasn't interested in hanging around. That was a shame, he would have liked to put on a show for them. "I should really get going. Jack and I have to be in early tomorrow to work on an assignment. Right, Jack?" "Yeah, big day tomorrow," He rolled his shoulders as if to say too bad.
He was silent for the farewells and gave a nod when Roccograndi thanked him for his cooperation. He had been just cooperative enough, really. It was endearing the way the girls hugged goodbye and there was a dark glint in his eye as Taylor turned to him.
"Glad I finally met you." He smiled darkly. "Likewise." He lied coolly. She had accused him of something he hadn't done and he could care less for the woman. How dare she? A cop passing judgement too quickly. No wonder the humans legal system was so corrupt. He scoffed softly at the blonde's warning to his little gazelle and watched as the law enforcement made their way out of his home, leaving him alone with Maxine with four minutes to spare. Shame.
"If only they'd stayed a few minutes longer they could have seen the show." He cooed to Maxine, snaking an arm around her midsection and pulling her close to him.
"Now about my reward for enduring your company..." he breathed, his lips moving dangerously close to hers.

Rebecca bidding Witt goodbye was cold, to say the least. The same went for Witt's goodbye to Rebecca. He tried to understand why Witt would treat Rebecca that way. Most guys, including himself, we nice to their girl's friends. Being mean or cold to them didn't go far with women, so it was best to play nice, even when you didn't want to. Apparently, Witt didn't feel the same. Rebecca had accused him of kidnapping Maxine, which would be an annoyance to anyone. Obviously this guy didn't just forgive and forget just because the other person was in a highly emotional state. Perhaps Jack was too understanding, but he would have forgiven Maxine if she had accused Jack of kidnapping or harming Rebecca without all the facts. Not that what he and Rebecca had was anywhere close to what Witt and Maxine had. That...that wasn't going to happen.
At last he was walking out the door with Rebecca, holding the door for her as always, and he waited for her to speak. They walked down the corridor to the elevator in silence, which he let be. Rebecca was tense and his voice breaking into her thoughts wasn't going to help the situation. The elevator rose to their level and at last Rebecca spoke. "I don't trust him." He turned to her as well as the elevator approached, looking down at her angry face with an understanding frown. "I don't like him and I don't trust him. He's bad news." Her eyes came to his and he could see how upset she was. He nodded at her, agreeing, but not wanting to say too much so close to Witt's door. "Or is that just typical gargoyle?" Jack gave a small, amused lopsided smile and nodded. "Unfortunately, a lot of the ones I've met are like that," he told her, looking to the elevator doors as they opened. He let her step on first and followed.
"I can't say all gargoyles are like Witt, but they're hard to trust and harder to like. A lot of them, from what I understand, are very stoic and cold. Some of them end up cruel, some of them just end up quiet, but I've never met or heard of a happy-go-lucky gargoyle. That might be because they always come out at night, though," he explained. His eyes turned back to her, his hands in his pockets now, and he wanted to comfort her somehow. "I wouldn't worry about her, Rebecca," he said after a pause, his voice gentler. It was never really gentle, but he could offer some comfort. He didn't even realize he had called her by her first name and not her last. It seemed more appropriate right now. "Witt is probably very different around her than he is around us. He wouldn't have saved her if he didn't care about her, right? He obviously didn't trust us and...well, he seems like the possessive type." His brow fell heavy over his eyes at the thought. "I don't like him either, and I would trust him as far as I could throw him, which wouldn't be very far at all. I don't think he'd hurt Maxine, though." He really meant it. Who could hurt that woman anyway? Witt seemed cruel, but he didn't seem that cruel.

Maxi smiled wider, relieved Becky was agreeing to lunch. She wasn't mad at her, that much was clear. "I'll call you in the morning." Maxi nodded and said, "Okay!" She was only relieved as long as Becky was talking to her, though. As soon as she turned to August, Becky turned cold as ice, and August did the same. "Glad I finally met you." "Likewise." Maxi didn't like the smile he was giving Becky. Why was he acting like this? It was actually making her mad. Becky turned back to Maxi, saying quietly, "Be careful." She gave an exasperated smile and nodded. August wasn't going to hurt her. After he had saved her last night, he wasn't going to do anything to seriously hurt her, and Maxi knew that.
When the cops were gone, August snaked his arm around her, and even though she was upset with him, she couldn't help but feel her heart race a little. "If only they'd stayed a few minutes longer, they could have seen the show." Maxi frowned more, looking up at him. "Now about my reward for enduring your company..." His lips were getting closer, and she felt her knees getting weaker, but she wasn't going to let this go. "Did you have to treat her like that?" she asked softly but obviously upset. She knew he wasn't going to like it, but she had to get this off her chest before it ate her alive. "Didn't I tell you she's like a little sister to me? You taunted her, one of the most important people in my life, and I don't appreciate that, August."
She pulled away from him, obviously upset. She had admitted to herself that she loved him, but she didn't know what to do about his treatment of her friends. First Brett, now Becky. Was she not supposed to have friends? Because that wasn't going to happen. "I know she accused you August, and I apologize for that, but she's suspicious of everybody except me. I'm the closest thing she has to family and she thought I had disappeared, that I was in danger. You can't expect her to be completely rational in a situation like that. I know you weren't completely rational last night either, so can you really blame her? You have a right to be upset, but I wish you would at least try to let my friends like you," she spewed, her voice soft though upset. She was more disappointed than angry now. Her eyes fell to the floor as her arms crossed over her chest, trying not to cry with her disappointment. "Speaking of, Brett says thank you...for last night," she added so quietly it was just loud enough for him to hear. Her eyes came back up to his, her brows furrowed. "I know Becky feels the same. She just has a hard time saying it. You didn't make it any easier by provoking her." He wasn't going to like what she said, but she needed to say it. She didn't want anymore trouble with her friends and her lover.

"Unfortunately, a lot of the ones I've met are like that," It only made her frown more. She didn't want Maxi getting hurt by some jerky gargoyle who felt completely comfortable making her feel awkward in his home. She was like Maxi's sister! Didn't that mean anything to him? Apparently not. That was all she needed to know about his character. "Great." She muttered as the elevator went downwards.
She listened to his explanation of the creatures, since he knew far more than she did, and only felt worse about Maxi's pairing with one. It didn't fit. Her docile, kind, sweet Maxi was with someone so completely opposite! Opposites attracted but come on! Night and day? No way. She would only get hurt. That guy couldn't give her what she wanted!
"I wouldn't worry about her, Rebecca," The statement made her look up at Jack in surprise, her brows going up. Had she heard him right? Surely not. Don't worry? "Witt is probably very different around her than he is around us. He wouldn't have saved her if he didn't care about her, right? He obviously didn't trust us and...well, he seems like the possessive type." Her brows went back down and she pursed her lips. He was possessive, but that was part of the problem! "I don't like him either, and I would trust him as far as I could throw him, which wouldn't be very far at all. I don't think he'd hurt Maxine, though."
"Maybe not physically." She corrected, shaking her head. "He's going to break her heart. She's head over heals for that jerk." The elevator came to a stop and let them out unto the hallway. Becky let out a sigh. "Thanks for covering the investigation, though. And lying for me up there. I would have ended up saying something I would inevitably regret if you hadn't." She offered a really weak smile.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" She said, her tone slightly distant and sad. She had a lot to think about.

"Did you have to treat her like that?" Her words and tone surprised him and he looked at her curiously, his brows furrowing slightly. She was upset.. "Didn't I tell you she's like a little sister to me? You taunted her, one of the most important people in my life, and I don't appreciate that, August." His eyes narrowed as she pulled away, not liking her doing that. He stood and watched her curiously, not sure why she would need to pull away if she was angry. He would rather she fought him and it led to sex; that would have been far sexier.
"I know she accused you August, and I apologize for that, but she's suspicious of everybody except me. I'm the closest thing she has to family..." August didn't care about the blond, he cared about Maxine. Who cared what Maxine was to her? She had wrongfully accused him without so much as having met him first! He frowned when she brought up him being irrational last night. The difference there was that he knew Sebastian had her and hadn't thrown out accusations carelessly.
"You have a right to be upset, but I wish you would at least try to let my friends like you," His intense gaze softened slightly with her tone. He didn't like when she used a firm tone with him. It didn't suit her and he felt the need to make her stop by force, but he wouldn't. Not to Maxine. "Speaking of, Brett says thank you...for last night. I know Becky feels the same. She just has a hard time saying it. You didn't make it any easier by provoking her."
"If memory serves me she provoked me. I'd simply asked how she knew you, trying to make friendly conversation." August took a step forward, seeing the hurt and disappointment clear across her delicate face even though his words were laced with arrogance. "You're sexy when you pout." He offered more softly now, his eyes hooded as they gazed into hers. "I let my impatience and annoyance get the better of me. I could have been more hospitable." He reached for her chin with his fingers, hoping she wouldn't pull away again. He wasn't sure what he would do to her if she did that again.
"The nights still young. I forbid you to be angry with me." His tone was soft and teetering on playful, pulling her chin closer to his. "Don't punish me for wanting to spend my evening with you, and only you." He leaned in to kiss her, unsure if she would make things difficult or not. If she wouldn't to play hardball, he could too, but he had a feeling she was easier to woo than that. She would succumb to him sooner rather than later.

"Maybe not physically. He's going to break her heart. She's head over heels for that jerk." Jack raised his eyebrows and shook his head. Nice guys like him were alone, but assholes like August Witt got nice women like Maxine? It didn't make any sense to him. At least Rebecca was smarter than that; well, she seemed that way, anyway. Would a nice guy like Jack be able to woo her? He wasn't sure, and he wasn't terribly aggressive unless he was certain the woman was interested. There had to be some rules against inter-office dating, though. He shook those ideas from his head, trying his damnedest not to notice how naked she was in those clothes. To break the silence, he almost told her that Maxine had to make her own choices. If Witt was her choice, then so be it.
"Thanks for covering the investigation, though. And lying for me up there. I would have ended up saying something I would inevitably regret if you hadn't." Jack looked at her again as she spoke and he gave a lopsided smile. "Not a problem," he assured. "If you ever need help on an investigation, I'll do what I can." He tried to tell himself that he would make the same offer to any cop, but he wasn't entirely sure he would. There was something about the way she smiled so uncertainly that just puzzled and pulled at him. He had a feeling she could ask for help on any case, no matter how mundane, and he would go for it. He followed her out of the elevator and into the hallway.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Why did she have to sound so sad and distant? It left an aching in his gut. He wanted to help her, but this wasn't something he could help her with. The least he could do was cheer her up a little, though. "Yeah," he replied simply, his hands in his pockets as they made their way to the front door. He finally just said what he wanted to, knowing that if he didn't ask the question, he'd regret it. The worst that could happen was she said no, right? "Unless you wanted to get a drink. To celebrate Maxine being safe. I mean, not out in public since you're not really dressed for that, but maybe at my place. Scout's honor I won't try anything funny," he offered, giving an amused smile at the last few words to ease her up. "Or you could take a rain check and we could do it some other time. It's up to you. But I think I deserve a drink for covering for you." It was a joke, and that was obvious from his tone, but he was hoping the whole request wasn't too awkward. He didn't want it to sound like he was asking her on a date or anything, just a couple beers between friends. His smile was calm and collected as he looked down at her, letting her know silently that he didn't care either way. No expectations.

"If memory serves me she provoked me. I'd simply asked how she knew you, trying to make friendly conversation." Maxi cocked a brow. Really? That was provocation? That didn't count as provocation to her, and her look said as much, but she eased up when August took a step toward her. "You're sexy when you pout." She had to bite her lip to keep from smiling. This was serious, damn it! She didn't want to hear him wooing her. "I let my impatience and annoyance get the better of me. I could have been more hospitable." Her resolve to be angry was slipping away. He was admitting he had been wrong, so how could she stay mad? She let her face soften some as his hand reached out for her chin, though her brow stayed low, unconvincing.
"The night's still young. I forbid you to be angry with me." She couldn't help the little smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth. Damn it. Why did he have to be so...so...August? He pulled her closer and she was unraveling under his stare. "Don't punish me for wanting to spend my evening with you, and only you." Her heart melted. Did he have to say things like that? She sighed a little, exasperated at herself for her lack of being angry with him. Her hands came up and pounded him on the chest lightly, not even enough to hurt a human man, and she grabbed fistfuls of his shirt. "Why can't I stay mad at you?" she demanded softly through her teeth, letting a small smile show on her lips. Her lips went to his, making her heart beat faster. He owned her heart, there was no question about that.
Before their kiss could get too heated, though, she pulled back and opened her eyes to his, trying to look serious. "Don't do it again. If you do, I'll really be mad," she warned, but her warnings hardly sounded threatening, even when she was infuriated. When she noticed he didn't believe her, she had to fight back laughing, though a little giggle did come out of her as she continued, a smile on her lips. "I'm serious! I won't be so easily swayed next time, Mr. Witt!" Would she ever be able to stay mad at him? She was too easily persuaded to forgive him. She would have to toughen up around this one. As she smiled at him, looking into those stormy blue-gray eyes of his, still nuzzled close to him, she shook her head lightly. "You're impossible," she murmured, amused and frustrated all at once. She kissed him again and let herself just give in to it. She would rectify things with Becky tomorrow. The rest of the night was reluctantly ceded to the selfish August Witt.

"Yeah... Unless you wanted to get a drink. To celebrate Maxine being safe. I mean, not out in public since you're not really dressed for that, but maybe at my place. Scout's honor I won't try anything funny," Her immediate thought was hell no because of how she was dressed, though she had to admit she needed a drink. She gave a sort of half smile at the second part, his little scout's honor. She knew he wouldn't try anything funny because she would kick his ass. Or, well she would certainly try. She wasn't fool enough to think she could win in a fight against him, especially after finding out what he was.
Before she could really make up her mind he continued. "Or you could take a rain check and we could do it some other time. It's up to you. But I think I deserve a drink for covering for you." She raised an amused brow at him. "Oh? I owe you now?" She asked, her tone borderline amused, though she actually was. He was starting to turn into someone she felt like she could consider maybe more than colleagues. There was a part of her that wanted him as a friend. She needed more friends and she had always gotten along better with guys. Save for Maxi, of course.
Rebecca looked down at herself and figured what the hell. He had already seen her in her pajamas, why not have a drink to put the icing on the cake. "Alright, Jack. You win, but not a word of this to anyone. Last thing I need is for everyone to make assumptions about me. Faye is doing a fine enough job making women on the force look semi easy." Rebecca had n o problem with Gina Faye. She was a good cop, and a tough girl but it was no secret she was a little on the slutty side. Rebecca respected her as a cop but as little else.
"Is your place okay? We can go to mine if you would rather." She offered, throwing him a cautious glance.

"Why can't I stay mad at you?" His grin was devious as he realized he'd won this little battle. He melted into her as she kissed him, her pounding fists easing as they grabbed at his shirt. It was difficult not to rip her clothes off then and there.
All too quickly she was pulling away from him and he let out an exasperated sigh. Why was she tormenting him now? He had apologized, was that not good enough?! He met her serious look with his own agitated one, letting her know he was not okay with this game. "Don't do it again. If you do, I'll really be mad," He raised a brow at the threat. She would be...really mad? It was laughable. Maxine had no concept of true anger, he was certain of that. The look he gave let her know he wasn't taking her seriously. "I'm serious! I won't be so easily swayed next time, Mr. Witt!" A small giggle escaped and he wasn't sure if he should smile with her or be angry at her poor attempt at a threat.
"You're impossible," she murmured, sounding both amused and frustrated all at once as she kissed him again. His hands were gentle as the moved over her body until they came down to her rear end, where he pulled his hand back and gave her a sharp swat, intending for it to sting, before giving it a squeeze, his mouth pulling away but just barely, his breath still hot and moist on her lips.
"I don't like when you threaten me." He growled playfully against her lips, using the hand on her bottom to pull her closer still, his body tightly pressed against hers. "But I'm curious. What does this really mad side of you look like?" He was mocking her, raising a brow though he looked almost dangerous as he pulled away quickly, feeling her body heat leave him in a wave. He took a step back and then turned away from her, walking to the couch and slumping down, the wide windows open to show the city twinkling in the night.
He slid his arms out over the top of the couch on either side of him and crossed his legs, his eyes back on her intently. He watched her with his predator gaze, waiting, expecting.. "Go on.. I need to know what I'm in store for so I can weigh my odds the next time I meet one of your friends. What's going to happen, my darling Maxine." His lips curled at the corner, showing a mischievous grin, his head turned down slightly as he watched her intently. He was being impossible.
