Maxi slid her fingers through his hair and Charlie felt the comfort of his wife for a moment. It was hard to believe she didn't remember with the way she melted for him, but then again how long had it been since she'd seemed to go to putty in his hands? She was looking at him in a way she hadn't in a long time, which made him actually believe her tale. “Everything.” There was something almost exciting about kissing her just then. He leaned more into her, sliding his body against hers and instinctively between her legs as her own spread, welcoming him in. Who was he to fight a spark? Her body language told him she wanted him, and if that's what she needed to remember, then he couldn't call himself a good husband by denying her.
He'd forgotten to speak, caught up in making out with his beautiful wife, so when she pulled away he looked down at her a little confused. “How did you propose to me? That’s one memory still loading in this broken head of mine.” Her smile was coy and his own lips twitched with the flicker of a smile before leaning in and kissing her again. He lingered a moment before pulling away and getting more comfortable, though he kept his body nestled between her legs, the bulge in his pants pressing into the apex of her thighs as a reminder of what she was doing to him. "Your sister saw an ad for white water rafting and you wanted to go. You know I'm not as much into that camping outdoorsy crap, but I agreed knowing it would be a good time to propose, but everything went all wrong. I got bumped out of the raft, Drew jumped in to get me, and I nearly drowned since I slammed my head into a rock. Actually, I probably would have drowned if Drew wasn't so fast. Anyway, I'd had this big proposal planned for at the end of the excursion, but when you guys dragged me onto shore, Drew found the box and pulled it out of my pocket. In front of you. I didn't even realize until the three of you were staring down at the ring that the gig was up. Drew knew I was going to propose but had no idea it was going to be that day or that I had the ring, because I knew he'd say something to Maureen and I knew she'd blow my damn cover. Not exactly great with secrets, that one." He smiled, pulling Maxi's hand from his hair and twining his fingers with hers so he could bring her hand down to admire the ring. He gazed at it for a long moment before his eyes met Maxi's again. "I had no choice but to ask you then and there with blood seeping out of a gash on my head. I still think you said yes out of pity." He teased, pressing his lips to her knuckles. Their marriage had gone through plenty of ups and downs. It was rocky at times, but there was no doubt they were soul mates. At least in Charlie's eyes.
"The guide patched me up and made sure I didn't have a concussion before we continued down the river. You and your sister obsessed about wedding plans for the rest of the damn day." Charlie leaned down and kissed his wife gently, his tongue flicking out across her lips. "It was mostly worth it, though." He had that wicked smile again as he kissed her, his hand leaving hers as it traveled over her side. He pawed at her chest, squeezing her breast as his kisses trailed over her jaw. "Do you remember any of that?" He asked seductively, pressing his hips harder into her.

Charlie kissed her again and even though Maxi was quite curious to hear the story behind the rock on her left hand, she was intoxicated by his lips pressed to hers. Her right hand slid to his cheek, simply enjoying being with her husband like this. When he pulled away from her lips, she kept her hand pressed against his face, watching him with deep affection. She was pretty damn lucky to have snagged such a gorgeous husband. “Your sister saw an ad for white water rafting and you wanted to go. You know I’m not as much into that camping outdoorsy crap…” Maxi grinned, feeling the familiarity in the statement though not necessarily aware of how much Charlie wasn’t into camping and outdoorsy activities. It just felt like she knew that about him. He hadn’t been much into it as a kid either, if she could recall. “…but I agreed knowing it would be a good time to propose, but everything went wrong.” She bit her lip to keep from laughing at the idea of Charlie being flung from their raft, grateful that Drew had been there to save him. Especially since Charlie had smacked his head on a rock, a fact that made Maxi feel guilty for being amused and wince internally at the thought of seeing him like that. And then it hit her: she remembered how frightened she had been, the sight of bright red blood streaking his face as Drew propped him up in the raft and how it made her go white from head to toe. She blinked, startled by the sudden memory, but still listening to Charlie’s words and hoping they would spark something else.
“Anyway, I’d had this big proposal planned for at the end of the excursion, but when you guys dragged me onto shore, Drew found the box and pulled it out of my pocket. In front of you.” She let out a little gasp with a smile. “Oh no!” she reacted softly, the hand on his face slipping down to cover the tip of her nose and her mouth even while she grinned. “I didn’t even realize until the three of you were staring down at the ring that the gig was up. Drew knew I was going to propose but had no idea it going to be that day or that I had the ring, because I knew he’d say something to Maureen and I knew she’d blow my damn cover. Not exactly great with secrets that one.” Maxi giggled, watching warmly as his fingers reached up for hers, pulling it down so he could stare at the ring he had given her all those years ago. She flushed slightly at how affectionate he looked then. Her own eyes looked to the ring and admired it—he’d done a good job, considering her sister had nothing to do with picking the ring. Maybe one of his sisters had. She didn’t care as their eyes met again. “I had no choice but to ask you then and there with blood seeping out of a gash on my head. I still think you said yes out of pity.” She smiled wide as he kissed her knuckles, but it faded slightly as she was overcome with another memory. Her eyes had been full of tears, but the smile on her face had almost ached as she looked down at Charlie with his bleeding head and big smile, the little black box opened in his fingers. “Will you marry me?”[/b] Maxi remembered the way he asked the question and the way her heart had skipped and throbbed so hard, she felt dizzy afterward. She remembered the way she had finally breathed, “Yes…” and then half sobbed and half laughed, “Yes, I’ll marry you!” Her heart was hammering now just thinking about it. “The guide patched me up and made sure I didn’t have a concussion before we continued down the river. You and your sister obsessed about wedding plans for the rest of the damn day.” Maxi laughed, knowing she probably had. Her smile was still on her lips as Charlie kissed her again, melting as she felt his tongue slip across her lips. Another shock of pain in her head preceded a memory that she knew was from the night after Charlie’s proposal. She wasn’t sure how she remembered that, but she did. She also remembered how much she loved him with every movement inside her, how she had panted into his lips, “I love you, Charlie…” and how he had seized her hand with that statement and tangled his fingers in hers and pressed her hand into the bed, going faster…It was an intense memory, even in its brevity, and she felt like she needed to catch her breath. Charlie gave her a chance when he pulled away to look down at her. “It was mostly worth it, though.” His smile was wicked against her lips and she had to wonder if he had remembered the same thing she had. It made her smile back before he was kissing her again.
Charlie’s hand slipped from Maxi’s to feel over her side until his hands found an ample breast to squeeze. She moaned in surprise and ecstasy. His lips were trailing over her sensitive jaw and back into her neck and she panted lightly while excitement throbbed in her veins. “Do you remember any of that?” His hips dipped into hers and she gasped silently, her head pushing back into the mattress just enough to expose more of her throat to him. He didn’t waste the opportunity to caress the skin with his plump mouth. She could feel his excitement grinding between her legs. Her fingers clutched at his hair firmly, but not enough to cause any pain. Their eyes met again, lust alight in hers as she slid her left hand across his cheek. “Bits. I was so scared when Drew pulled you out of the water and there was all this blood dripping down your face. I’d almost forgotten that by the time you had me in bed that night, though.” Now her smile was mischievous as she leaned up and kissed his lips again, humming a soft moan as he pushed his hips into hers again and deepened their kiss. Both of her hands moved from his hair, dragging down his back and clawing gently at his shirt as their tongues danced. His mouth was becoming more insistent against hers but she pulled back enough to nip his bottom lip and tug it out sensually. When she released it, she smiled at the way he was looking at her. It made her stomach squirm and her insides tingled excitedly. “We had a lot of fun that night, if I’m remembering correctly.” Her hips pushed up into his seductively, her eyes looking deep into his. He had such stunning, breathtaking eyes. Hadn’t she always loved that about him? His gaze had always made her heart flutter…or was she making herself remember that? At the moment, she honestly didn’t care all that much—she just knew that this moment with Charlie felt good.

“Bits. I was so scared when Drew pulled you out of the water and there was all this blood dripping down your face. I’d almost forgotten that by the time you had me in bed that night, though.” Her smile made his own spread. He was glad that her memory seemed easily jogged, and part of him did still question the severity of the situation at hand. Surely Maureen and Drew had been over exaggerating, right? No, but he'd spoken to her and she'd seemed mixed up. He couldn't think about it as she kissed him, though. He pressed his body tighter to hers, glad they still had this spark after all these years. She clawed at him gently and he took her cue, kissing her harder, his mouth more persistent as he pawed at her chest. “We had a lot of fun that night, if I’m remembering correctly.” Her hips were pushing into his seductively, her eyes hungry for him, and he was incapable of denying her. "For good measure I think it's for the best I remind you, just to make sure your memory is accurate." He teased, kissing her hard again and silently hoping she was quieter than she'd been that night so long ago.

Maxi smiled up at him and he had to grin harder in return. “Maybe a little.” She teased and he rolled his eyes. "You better." He countered and her eyes softened as her hand came up and stroked his cheek. She delivered a gentle kiss and he sighed into her mouth still not completely sure how to feel about this entire thing. Still, he kept her lips to his, and when she pulled away he pressed his mouth against hers again until she giggled and pulled him away more firmly. “You might have to remind me again tonight, though.” Charlie cocked a brow but he didn't stop her when she kissed him again, her tongue sneaking into his mouth and making him work hard not to smile too much as he kissed her back deeply.
Charlie pressed his hand against his wife's chest once more when he heard footsteps down the hall. He stopped suddenly, his head twisting towards the door. Was it locked? Suddenly there was a light knocking on the door. "Maxi?" It was Maureen and Charlie buried his face into the pillow. "She's busted us again." Charlie laughed. The light sound of beeping was coming from somewhere in the distance, though Charlie was oblivious to it. "She laughed.. she must be waking up" It was Drew speaking now but Charlie didn't seem to hear him at all. "Maxi? Are you up? Max?" Charlie lifted his head and looked down at his wife, though her vision of him was weaker now. He seemed almost fuzzy, like she was falling asleep.. "We'll be down in a minute!" He called out, though his voice sounded echoed and distant even though he was right there with her..
Maureen watched as her sisters eyes slit open, sucking in a sharp breath. "Drew!" She breathed, moving to the edge of her seat and squeezing her sisters frail hand. "Max? Can you hear me?" She asked cautiously as her sisters eyes fluttered open more, wincing against the bright light. "Drew, turn down the light!" She insisted, her eyes intent on her sister, wide eyed and amazed. She was up!

Maxi could hear the footsteps in the hallway but she didn’t think anything of it until Charlie pulled away and looked at the door. Oh shit! The knocking on the door made Maxi’s eyes open wide. “Maxi?” Charlie buried his face in the pillow and Maxi’s wide eyes watched him with a smile. “She’s busted us again.” Maxi laughed with Charlie, blushing furiously in anticipation of her sister walking in on them naked and sprawled across her son’s bed. But where was that beeping coming from? It sounded like a heart monitor…but why would she be hearing that? “She laughed…she must be waking up.” “We’ll be down in a minute!” Why was she hearing Drew? Charlie was becoming blurry and Maxi’s head was spinning. Her eyes closed and his voice came to her as if it was echoing across a canyon. She was falling…
_________________________________________________________________________________
Maxi forced her eyes open, the light burning her sensitive vision. She immediately closed those deep blues again, her brow furrowed in pain. “Drew!” It was Maureen’s voice and in moments she could feel the warmth of her hands clasping onto one of Maxi’s. Once more she tried to open her eyes, blinking rapidly to help with the sting. The blurry form of Maureen came into view beside her on the bed and for a moment she thought she had simply passed out in Tristan’s room. Had she fainted? She must have worried Charlie so much… “Max? Can you hear me?” Maxi tried to hold her sister’s gaze, but her eyelids fluttered and her eyes were tearing with the effort. “Drew, turn down the light!” Looking away from her sister she could see Drew rushing to lower the lights. When he had done so, bringing the room to a dim glow, most of the light coming into the room from the windows that peered out into the hallway. It was much easier on her eyes, though, and soon she could focus clearly on her sister and the man she regarded as her brother. Drew was grinning and wide-eyed, rushing to the other side of the bed and taking her free hand. “Hey Maximus, how’re you feeling?” She smiled a little and shook her head gently, feeling very weak and tired even though she’d just woken up. Her eyes turned to Maureen’s once again and she squeezed her sister’s hand gently. “Mau—“ She was cut off from saying her sister’s name by the dryness of her throat. It immediately clenched and sent Maxi into a coughing fit. As she tried to hack the tightness of her throat away, Drew scrambled away once more to grab a water bottle off of the counter nearby. Maxi downed it as soon as he handed the uncapped bottle to her, realizing that there was a tube running through her nose and down her throat. She was in the hospital…but why?
With a sigh, she handed the empty bottle back to Drew, falling back onto her pillow and rubbing her eye with her free hand. “Maury…what happened? Did I pass out or something?” She moved and realized how stiff her muscles were. With a wince, she stretched her legs and looked imploringly to her big sister. “And why am I so sore?” The sex with Charlie wasn’t that wild, so that couldn’t be what was making her ache. So what then? It felt almost like she had been laying still for a week.

Maxi looked dazed and confused, but Maureen expected nothing less from her little sister. “Mau—“ She croaked and then cleared her throat and began to cough. Drew gave her some water and Maureen watched anxiously as her sister drank. Was it okay for them to let her have water? Would the doctor be mad? surely not.. “Maury…what happened? Did I pass out or something?” She frowned and slowly nodded. That's exactly what had happened, and it was clear that Maxi had no idea. “And why am I so sore?” Maureen looked nervously at her boyfriend before looking back down at her sister. They still weren't entirely sure what had happened, only that she had been drugged and kept in a coma by some nurse for reasons no one really knew just yet. Could she tell her all of that yet?
"Honey, you've been in a coma for a week." She explained softly, reaching up and pushing her sisters greasy hair from her face some. She would help bathe her later if she needed it, though she wondered if August might want to do that. The thought made her strangely uncomfortable to think about. Oh, August would want to know she woke up! He needed to get some sleep since he was working tonight and Maureen promised to be in touch if she woke. He could wait a bit, though. Hell, he might be stone at the moment anyway and not even get the message for a few more hours until the sun went down. "A nurse has been keeping you in a coma but the police don't know what her motive was yet. But luckily you didn't miss any work since it's still summer!" She gushed with an encouraging smile, reaching to hold her sisters hand with both of her own. "August will be so relieved that you're awake. He's been here nonstop since you were admitted, but he had to go get some rest because he has work tonight. I'm sure he'll be here soon though. I'll text him to let him know." She pulled out her phone and began to text, though she saw some confusion in her sisters eyes. "Are.. you feeling alright? Drew, you should go get the nurse.. they'd probably want to know Max woke up." She said nervously to her boyfriend, unsure what she should be doing at the moment.

“Honey, you’ve been in a coma for a week.” Maxi’s big eyes grew twice their size while Maureen pushed hair from her face. A coma? For a week? No wonder she was so sore! She’d been lying in a hospital bed that whole time. The tube threaded through her nose that extended down her throat must have been how they fed her. “A nurse has been keeping you in a coma but the police don’t know what her motive was yet. But luckily you didn’t miss any work since it’s still summer!” Why would a nurse keep her in a coma? Was she the only one the woman targeted? Maureen was right, at least it was summer and she hadn’t missed any work. Wait…what work? She thought her only work was caring for Ruby and homeschooling her. Where was that girl? And Charlie? Maureen’s hands clasped hers and Maxi forced a confused smile on her mouth. “August will be so relieved that you’re awake.” Her heart stopped. August? “He’s been here nonstop since you were admitted, but he had to go get some rest because he has to work tonight. I’m sure he’ll be here soon though. I’ll text him to let him know.” Her sister’s words were reeling in her mind as Maxi watched Maureen pull out her phone. August had been there…not Charlie, August. It was August who had been at her side. But how? The tears were stinging in her eyes when Maureen looked at her again with her own apprehension.
“Are…you feeling alright? Drew, you should go get the nurse…they’d probably want to know Max woke up.” Still Maxi remained speechless, watching as Drew looked worriedly between the two women but did as Maureen asked. When he had closed the door behind him, Maxi swallowed and forced herself into a sitting position. She finally pushed the words out of her mouth. “Charlie and Ruby aren’t here? Mom and Dad?” The look Maureen gave told her everything she needed to know before Maureen confirmed it with words: Mom and Dad were dead once more and Charlie had never married her. There was no Ruby. Tears welled in Maxi’s eyes and her lip trembled. The tears were big and fat as they rolled onto her cheeks and she covered her face with her hands while her emotions flooded through her. Her parents really were dead and her beautiful little girl didn’t really exist. Charlie Miller was the same distant crush that she remembered. Drew and Maureen weren’t married and had no children. But she had August again. This was the life she remembered. She wasn’t crazy after all. It was all just an incredibly real and rather frightening dream. Sadness and joy pouring out of her eyes while Maureen comforted her even as she asked questions. When she dropped her hands from her face again, wiping the tears away and sniffling, she looked at Maureen with red eyes. “I’m sorry Maureen. I just had the strangest dream.”
Maxi told Maureen about how she’d woken up in a cab beside a beautiful little British girl who turned out to be her daughter. Maureen and Drew had been married with two teenagers and two newborns and Maxi was married to Charlie Miller. They both had to giggle about the absurdity of her ever being married to Charlie, but their laughter died when Maxi explained what had happened to their parents. She explained how frightened and confused she’d been but how happy she eventually began to feel. She even confided what had happened in her son’s bed and laughed at the face Maureen made. “I was so happy to have Mom and Daddy back…and our kids were wonderful. My Ruby was so beautiful and sweet…it was all so real, Reenie. But at least now I know I’m not crazy. And I have August…did you text him? I can’t wait to see him. But don’t you dare say anything about Charlie to him. I don’t want him to know I had a crush on him just in case they ever meet.” And she definitely didn’t want him to know that she’d had a dream about having sex with him. But she didn’t have to say that—it was strongly implied. Maureen was able to say a few words before the nurse came in with Drew and swooped down on her to bombard her with questions and begin inspecting her. She did her best to answer the woman's questions and cooperated with the exam but she really just wanted to talk with her sister and Drew until August got there. While the nurse scribbled on a chart titled "Maxine Erin McManus," Maxi took a moment to look at Maureen. "Is August coming? Oh! And did you tell Becky?" she asked with excited curiosity.

Maxi looked pale but Maureen knew it was because she had been asleep for an entire week. “Charlie and Ruby aren’t here? Mom and Dad?” Maureen wasn't expecting any of those words to leave her sisters mouth. Mom and dad? Why would her sister ask if they were there? And who were Charlie and Ruby? The names didn't ring a bell, except for maybe Charlie Miller but Maureen couldn't think of a logical reason Maureen would expect to see him there. "Honey, mom and dad are gone.." She said gently and then explained she didn't know who Charlie or Ruby were. When Maxi explained Maureen felt a queer stirring in her stomach. She gently explained none of that had happened, her hand wrapping around her younger sisters in a feeble attempt to comfort her as her big blue eyes welled with tears. What on earth had she seen in her sleep?
“I’m sorry Maureen. I just had the strangest dream.” That went without saying, really. It was a strange dream indeed, a dream where Maxi thought their parents were alive and she was married to her childhood friend. Maxi began to explain further abou the dream she'd had, which involved she and Drew being married. Her cheeks flushed at the thought; sh and Drew married? It was absurd and wonderful all at the same time. She would like that. One day, of course. It was too soon in their relationship to talk wedding bells. It was a detailed dream and an intense one. She had never been in that accident, never lived with the Aberdeens, had a niece in England and a sister who she was very close to. She'd been a different person and Maureen couldn't help but wonder if that's what her life would have been had their family never taken that fatal boating trip.
I don’t want him to know I had a crush on him just in case they ever meet.” If Maureen had learned anything about her sisters boyfriend this past week, it was that he was overly protective of her, and wouldn't take kindly to her having an affair, even if only in her dreams. "Oh, no I forgot. I'll do it right now!" She swiped her phone to life and sent the message before looking back to her sister. "That sounds like a really wild, really vivid dream, Maxi." She didn't know what to say. It was like, well, a dream! It was how she wished things were or could have been. A happy family. "I wish I could have..." The door opened and the nurses poured in. Maureen got up and moved to be closer to Drew so the hospital staff could do their job.
"Is August coming? Oh! And did you tell Becky?" Becky! She hadn't messaged the girl, though she had seen her often, not just in Maxi's room but coming in and out to visit her boyfriend, who was under the same mysterious spell. She looked at her phone and nodded. "August will be here soon. I'll let Becky know. She's been in and out, but spent most of her time down the hall. Her boyfriend was in the same coma." She explained, biting her lower lip and looking at Drew before back at Maxi. "A girl who worked at the museum and another guy were attacked as well." She explained, hugging herself as the doctors ran vital. She looked at her phone again. "August said twenty minutes."

Maureen nodded after she had glanced at her phone which made Maxi’s heart skip. August was coming! “August will be here soon. I’ll let Becky know. She been in and out, but spent most of her time down the hall. Her boyfriend was in the same coma.” Maxi’s large sapphire eyes widened. Jack was here too? For the same reason? How strange! What if someone had been targeting Becky? Drew and Maureen shared an uneasy look that didn’t sit well with Maxi. “A girl who worked at the museum and another guy were attacked as well.” Well that answered Maxi’s question about Becky, but it didn’t clear up much more than that. Was it Claire that had been attacked? She knew the young lady because of her many, many trips to the museum and the chaos surrounding the Tree of Enlightenment last summer and she hoped that it wasn’t her. And who could the last guy be? She wondered if she knew him too…Maureen looked at her phone again. “August said twenty minutes.” Again Maxi’s heart thudded in her chest. She couldn’t wait to see him, but there was a sense of guilt for what had happened in her dream. Had she cheated on August by sleeping with Charlie? Was it ridiculous to feel that way? It was just so vivid and real in her mind! Nobody could understand her feels about this…except maybe Jack. Maybe she would have a heart to heart with him when they were well and out of the hospital.
Becky showed up just a few minutes later, rare tears in her eyes as she rushed over to hug Maxi. Apparently Jack had just woken up just over an hour before her and it relieved Maxi to hear it. She loved how well Jack treated Becky and how he brought her out of her shell with his tender persistence so she was so glad to hear he was well now too. Maxi told Becky about her strange and vivid dream and found out that Jack had been through a similar experience. Good! Then Maxi really would have something to talk about with him! She would invite him out for coffee soon before the strangeness of it all wore off. She was also able to get the other names from Becky. It was Claire in the other hospital bed, but even more shocking was who lay in the other: none other than Sebastian Davenport. Maxi’s heart froze for a long beat, both terrified by his presence so close by and vindicated by his going through this too. It served him right for everything he did to her!
The nurses finished their prodding and pampering, helping her clean up a bit with a toothbrush and a comb, and left Maxi to her guests just in time. As the kindly older woman and the sweet-faced younger one left, another familiar and beloved face appeared in the doorway. Immediately her eyes filled with tears and a smile split her face from ear to ear. “August!” she breathed, her heart speeding up, which reflected on the monitor. His usual stern look didn’t change much in front of her other guests, but she could tell he was relieved too. Looking to her sister, Drew, and Becky, she reached out and squeezed her sister’s hand. “Do you mind giving us a few minutes?”

Maureen let Maxi have her time with Rebecca when she showed up, leaving to go into the hallway with Drew in tow. She collapsed into his embrace in the hall, grateful for him being there. Of course he would be, Maxi was practically his family also, but he truly had become her rock through all of this. In a way she liked hearing Maxi tell her that she and Drew were married with children. It was a scary thought, but a comforting one. Maureen Solomon. It did have a nice ring to it. And children! She would love to be a mother, and she knew Drew would be a fabulous father. Her eyes moved up to his, silently considering Maxi's dream. Maybe one day they would get married.. She kissed him and wrapped her arms around him again, nuzzling her face into his neck. "I'm so glad you're here." She whispered.
August knew he had to get to work tonight, but he had been keeping his ring on so he could hear his phone ringing in case Maxi woke up. That way he could go see her before heading to work, but if he continued to miss days to sit beside his unconscious girlfriend, he would start getting into trouble. The phone had buzzed, alerting him of a message and through his tired stupor he reached for the little cellular device. The words on the screen woke him immediately. He tore his sheets from his body and got up from his bed, typing a fast reply back that he would be at the hospital soon. First thing he needed to do was shower.
August couldn't remember the last time he'd sped to get ready, but he was up and out the door within twelve minutes, speeding his way towards the hospital. He hated how desperate he was to see her, but Maxine had become an obsession. He fantasized about only her, and often thought of nothing but her, and not just in bed like he did most women. August genuinely loved her company and it was difficult to come to terms with it. Not just her company, but everything about her. He loved her, and he hated how much.
The drive to the hospital was a short one considering the time of day. Too late for rush hour, too early for everyone going out on the town. The streets weren't empty by any means, but not as crammed as they could be. He stopped at the front to get his visitors pass, glad that the woman sitting behind the desk recognized him from his previous visits and wouldn't give him a hard time for coming after hours to visit. Personally August found their visiting policy to be pointless and a waste of time, but he didn't have the time or energy to argue it, especially since the woman was letting him through. Clearly she agreed with whatever silent points August would have made about the topic. He rode the elevator up, fixing his shirt since it was a bit messy from hastily throwing it on, and then waited for the metal box to come to a stop. When it did he took a deep breath, adjusting the visitor pass around his neck just as the doors opened. He stepped out and made the familiar walk towards Maxine's room, his step quick but collected.
August stopped at the familiar doorway, taking one last breath before letting himself be seen. He let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding as her sapphire eyes scrolled up to meet his. He could see the raw emotion on her face, and though he remained stoic, his eyes matched hers; relieved and at peace, finally. “August!” His lips curved gently and he took a step forward, noticing the room full of people. He hated sharing her with anyone. “Do you mind giving us a few minutes?” She asked the others and August was glad for it. Maxine knew he couldn't let go in front of the others and she wouldn't force him to. The others obliged her request, making their way from the room. Maureen reached out and stroked his arm gently, a chill running up his spine as she passed. He liked Maureen. She was gentle and beautiful and not pushy. She also kept him updated on Maxine's condition when he couldn't be there and he respected her greatly for it, though deep down he knew she didn't necessarily care for him as a brother-in-law of sorts. Not that he meant to marry Maxine, at least not anytime soon, but he could see the auburn haired woman wanted more for her sister than the dark, often ornery August Witt.
Once the others passed him, August made his way inside the room. He said nothing, sinking onto her bed and pulling her body into his, embracing her tightly as if to tell her he never intended to let go. "If you're not careful I'm going to hire someone to watch you at all times." He grumbled at her before pulling away, his fingers grasping her face at her jawline, his thumbs cradling the soft skin by her ears as the rest of his fingers dug into the tangle of red hair. He sighed peering into her eyes, his expression softening considerably now that it was simply them. "You had me very worried. You know that." He scolded gently, leaning in to kiss her gently before rapping her in his arms once more. "I'm so glad you're alright."

Maxi’s heart was pounding as she watched her sister, Drew and Rebecca make their way out to the hallway. Would August scold her for being so silly as to eat candy from a stranger? No doubt he was upset about the whole experience, but there was a gentle excitement in his eyes now that told her he would be kind. It didn’t escape her notice how Maureen reached out and touched August’s arm as she passed. To her surprise, August face softened further just slightly. Had they bonded over their experience of caring for her when she was in her coma? She could feel her warmth towards her sister and August grow in that moment, hoping this would be a good thing. They didn’t have to be best friends, but it would be nice to have them like each other. That would be wonderful…
When everyone left, Maureen shutting the door behind her, August stared right at her as he advanced on her bed. She bit her lip, her heart thudding harder against her breast in excitement. But it wasn’t until he swooped down onto her bed and gathered her in his arms that she registered the reality of this moment. This was the man she loved. She was never meant to love Charlie Miller—not the way she loved August. Being in his arms again, embraced so tightly that she wondered if August would ever let her go, she knew for sure that this was her reality. This was her happiness. Her arms twined around his shoulders and squeezed, tears welling in her deep blue eyes. “If you’re not careful I’m going to hire someone to watch you at all times.” She let out a soft sob of laughter, burying her nose in his neck to take in his smell and his warmth. Before she could really snuggle into him, though, he was nudging her back to cup her face in his big hands. His touch was gentle and fierce at the same time, his face drawn with relief and affection. She could tell how much grief she had caused him and it made her eyes tear more. “You had me very worried. You know that.” Her lip pouted gently as she nodded, sniffling softly. It wasn’t his scolding that brought tears to her eyes—it was the pure emotion he was displaying out of love and concern for her. His lips found hers and she leaned into the kiss. But it didn’t last nearly long enough. “I’m so glad you’re alright.” He spoke the words as his arms came around her again, hugging her tightly. She smiled against his lips and looked up into his stormy eyes. “Me too. You have no idea.” Maxi kissed August again but with more passion, her hands finding their way into his hair. It was such a familiar feeling and she let out a soft sigh through her nose in relief. She had her August back.
When she pulled away, she bit her lip and looked up at August with sad and adoring eyes. “I had a dream that you didn’t exist. We never knew each other. My parents were alive and Maureen and Drew were married to each other with kids, but I didn’t have you. All I could think about was how I could find you. It felt so real…I thought I really wouldn’t see you ever again.” One hand slipped across his jaw, her thumb gliding across his cheek, the other hand still buried in his dark copper locks. A couple tears slipped onto her cheeks at the memory of what it was like when she found out she’d never known August. With a sigh, she leaned her forehead against his, closing her eyes serenely. “I’m so glad it was just a dream. I was so happy that my parents were alive, but it didn’t feel right being without you. It terrified me to think I’d never see you again.” Her eyes opened again and she looked deep into his, a small smile curving her mouth. “I love you so much…” she practically whispered.

“Me too. You have no idea.” Maxine's lips found their way to his mouth again and she kissed him harder, her fingers finding their usual path up through his mop of hair. The gesture alone made his brows furrow, the familiarity of it gripping him in a way he wasn't used to. He swallowed hard, melting into her kiss and sighing against her lips. How many times over the last week had he feared he'd never feel this again? His hands slid down her arms and then around her shoulders before coming back up to her elbows, simply feeling her, tangible and alive in his arms.
When Maxine pulled away, his brows remained slightly furrowed, his eyes intense as they stared into hers. “I had a dream that you didn’t exist." It wasn't what he expected to hear and his eyes narrowed slightly, not liking what she had to say. Didn't exist? Why would she even tell him that? "We never knew each other. My parents were alive and Maureen and Drew were married to each other with kids, but I didn’t have you. All I could think about was how I could find you. It felt so real…I thought I really wouldn’t see you ever again.” August felt his heart pounding in his chest. That was an interesting dream indeed. He stayed silent, watching her carefully. The man didn't know what to say really, so instead he focused on her eyes, her touch, the fact that she was really awake. Her tears startled him. Was she so moved by a dream? Surely she had to know it wasn't real at the time.
Her head bowed and her forehead touched his. August sighed and felt his eyes slip shut, his hands trailing to the back of her neck. “I’m so glad it was just a dream. I was so happy that my parents were alive, but it didn’t feel right being without you. It terrified me to think I’d never see you again.” He opened his eyes again and peered into hers, the sapphire color always so striking, especially now that they were rimmed with pink. "That will never happen." He practically whispered in a voice that was very un-August like. “I love you so much…” As always he felt his heart and mind twitch at the sentimental moment she created, but he was quick to sigh and let it got. "And I love you." He whispered back before kissing her again, his hands slipping up to cup her jaw in his strong, firm hands. His lips lingered for a moment before he pulled away slightly, his eyes opening up to hers again. "I will always be right here." He promised softly, his heart racing at what he was telling her. In that moment he verbally devoted himself to her, quite possibly forever. August wasn't sure he could cope without her in his life, and the last week only proved it. He'd known before, but having her in that coma was enough to truly push him to let that wall down. He loved Maxine, and he wasn't letting go, not ever if he could help it.
August kissed Maxine again, harder this time, holding her face still and close for a moment before his hands trailed through her still slightly damp red hair. His tongue slipped from his mouth and moved into hers, caressing it lovingly as he pressed himself closer to the woman he loved. His body responded to the close proximity and intimate touching, which was what inevitably forced him to pull away, but slowly. "I want you to rest." He told her softly, pulling away just a little more so he could clearly look into her eyes. "I need you better so you can come home with me." He insisted, not wanting to leave her side, but wanting her well rested. Maybe he would stay for a bit, but he would need to keep his distance. She was awake for all of five minutes and he wanted to bring her back home to make love, but it was strictly selfish. He simply wanted to show himself that things were alright, that it was over, that she was still there and his and would never leave again. "Do you need anything?"

“And I love you.” The whispered words sent Maxi’s heart into a flutter. She would never tire of hearing August admit his love for her, no matter how softly spoken. Just hearing them at all was like he was shouting from the rooftops how he felt about her. His lips came back to hers and two more tears slid down her cheeks as she fell into the kiss. Strong hands cupped her jaw and her fingers slid up to caress his rough knuckles. How she had missed these hands…When he pulled away she slowly opened her eyes, looking into his. “I will always be right here.” She was wrong. That was like August shouting from the rooftops how much he cared for her. Her heart skipped about five beats before it started to pound again, making her dizzy with the blood rushing to her head. He would always be there beside her. It was more than she could ever hope for. No other promise had ever made her happier. The smile that slid across her mouth was wide and beaming, her eyes glistening as sheer contentment washed over her. She would never be without August again. This time when he kissed her, it was hard and passionate, his hands forcing her to remain still in his grasp. When his hands slipped into her hair, she let out a soft whimper, her own hands cupping his jaw. The feel of his soft tongue snaking against hers made her heart pound against her ribs in delight. She forgot where they were and let her instincts take over, moving closer to his body and burying her fingers in his hair. He pressed closer too and with every action August made, she could feel his love for her. She mirrored back his love with her own, keeping him close and getting closer. After believing he was gone from her life forever, all she wanted was to enjoy having him back in her arms. Unfortunately, August pulled away, forcing her eyes to open again to stare at him forlornly. “I want you to rest. I need you better so you can come home with me.” She knew his words were sensible but that didn’t stop her from feeling disappointed that she couldn’t fully indulge in having the love of her life back. From the look in his eyes and the reluctance with which he separated himself from her, she knew he felt the same. So she resolved to get better as fast as she could to avoid putting off their desires for too much longer. “Do you need anything?” The question warmed her heart and she smiled wide. One of her hands caressed his cheek gently, the other slipping into his own hand with ease. There was nothing in the world she needed. “Not anymore,” she replied in a soft, sweet voice. Leaning in, she placed one more gentle kiss on August’s mouth before falling back and resting comfortably on her bed. Her eyes stayed on her lover’s face as she took in every inch of it to engrave on her heart. “Tell me what I’ve missed since I’ve been asleep.” --------------------------END THREAD--------------------------
