Kevin's heart skipped a beat when she thanked him and planted a tender kiss onto his lips. This was what he wanted; to take care of her. He knew he wouldn't be able to in the sense most men were, but he was doing what he could and she truly appreciated it which warmed him. He held onto her as she curled into him, reaching for his slice of pizza and nibbling at it once more, only half interested in eating it. He was also glad she wouldn't mind working in a bar. He wondered how much of a distraction she would be for him? She had proven to be a little bit of one on Brandon's boat, but there was less work at Kit's bar. Then again now that most of his customers were free there might be more traffic, but even then most of them were still shifting into animals come nightfall.
"Yeah, Kit would never rat you out." He confirmed softly with a nod. Kit was often an asshole, but he was a good guy. He never mistreated Kevin and though. Sure he had watched the guy abuse other people in different ways, but for the most part he was a good man and Kevin owed his life to him. “And I think Bran would really appreciate the construction work if they close off the docks. I just don’t know what he and Jo are planning to do. For all I know, they could be making plans to sail away.” Sail away? That meant that Kevin was still out of his fishing gig. It was fine, though. Kevin didn't have much interest in returning, anyway. Brandon still wasn't his favorite person and he was still dreading seeing the guy, so he did sort of hope they would sail off because that meant no Jo either. Then he and Mel could stay at her place since the couch wasn't exactly a great place for the two of them to crash, which would be what happened if she stayed there.
Kevin let the thoughts drop as Mel snuggled into him more and he ran his hand up and down her arm adoringly. “Jo was pretty freaked out. I could see Bran wanted to get her as far away from this place as possible. I just don’t know that I would want to go. I mean, I would like to be back in the sunshine and away from the camps and all, but then I’d have to leave you again. I don’t want to leave you again.” He hadn't even thought of her leaving and his head turned, a look of worry on his face. He couldn't stand letting her go. He would get on Brandon's boat and deal with Bran and Jo if he had to! But what about Kelsey.. She wouldn't come. And his jobs.. How would he support Kelsey from the sea? Dread filled him and his shoulders slumped as he realized it was a possibility that she might actually leave him.
“I just know I would miss home a lot if I left. I’ve been all over the world and I’ve never been happier than here in Scriptor Bay. I’d suggest all four of us go somewhere together, but I know you have Kelsey and I couldn’t ask you to just up and leave your job and everything.” She smiled brightly at him and he felt as though she had read his mind. He couldn't leave his sister, but he couldn't have Melanie gone, either. He was too attached now, but it didn't matter because she didn't want to go! She wanted to stay with him! “Either way, I’m not leaving your side for a while. I missed you too much.” She pecked his cheek and then ate her food. Kevin's eyes never left her, though. He stared at her lean face, her soft damp hair messy from sexy and air drying. “This is the best pizza I’ve ever had. I don’t know if it’s really the best pizza, though, or if I’ve just gone too long without it. I almost want to make up a song for it.” She giggled but Kevin couldn't help but feel sentimental towards her. He didn't laugh at her silly comment, too busy thinking about how he had her back after all this time and how she wouldn't leave him. How he would protect her at all costs since he'd failed to do so before. He'd failed every time he tried to save the women he cared for from harm. Kevin put his own pizza down and pulled her face towards his with his now free hand. He cupped her cheek, moving his mouth gently to hers and kissed her passionately. His brows furrowed deeply as he tried to focus on the fact that she was back with him, in his home, by his side, in his arms. He shifted and pulled her into him, bringing her into a tight embrace as he kissed her, now a little more awkwardly because of their position. "I missed you, too." He breathed after a moment, pulling away just enough to gaze into her eyes. "And I'm glad you're not leaving, because I wouldn't let you. I'd lock you up in.. I don't know where I'd lock you up. Maybe I would tie you to the couch. I never want to be without you and I know that sounds clingy, but I missed you.. I really, really missed you.. I don't think you know how much you mean to me, Mel. It scares me how much I like you because I hardly know you and I know you hardly know me, it's just.. I don't know, you're just so amazing. If I could marry you and hold onto you forever I feel like I would do that." He licked his lips and swallowed the lump in his throat, giving a scared sort of look as his embrace eased a little. "I don't want to scare you off.." He admitted, suddenly afraid he might. No woman liked a needy guy and he was slowly becoming one. "I'd do anything for you, Mel... anything.." He bit his lower lip and cleared his throat, looking away nervously as he slid his hands down gently to rest on her hips suddenly afraid she might pull away from him.
